IBM 60GXP or 75GXP?

I was thinking of purchasing a new hard drive, and was trying to decide between the 60 or the 75 GXP. Which one is faster and more reliable? Thanks.

Get the 60GXP. They are the latest from IBM. The 75GXP (from Hungary) has been plagued with lots of quality issues.

The 60's are the next generation after the 75's. Some people have had problems with the 75's (fairly high RMA rates). I would go for a 60.

As far as I know, the specs are similar in terms of performance. The 60's are just the newer generation.

I have a 45 gig 75 GXP at 7200, it runs great and is quite fast, but one thing i've noticed is that it takes exactly 5 seconds to delete anything, whether its a 2k file or 575 megs.

75GXP's have this bad problem of developing bad sectors and other quality issues. I'd definately go 60GXP no matter what [unless if you don't care about losing your data every 2 months].

my 40gig 60gxp really is a little faster then the several 30gig 75gxp's
but it also seems noticibly quieter

(yup i like the 60gxp 🙂 )

hmm the two posts above mine are ripping on the 75gxp

but from what i understand its only the 45gig version that has had lots of problems
all in all the 75gxp is an awsome drive ive probably used 20-30 of them and not a single problem

My 30.7 GB 75GXP is working fine... its good for me... but I bought this one from Hong Kong and brought it back to London U.K so make any diff? never tried the ones here but the one I got from is good 🙂

If you get a 75gxp 45gb then I'd say you have a 20-30% chance of it failing. The RMA rate is PITIFUL, though the drives are warranted for a long time.
