IBM 45GB ATA/100 7200rpm: Worth $166 ?

Seems like a pretty good deal. I've got a 13.2 IBM 7200 ATA/100 that I paid $108 for, and I've never had problems with it. I'm just wondering if anyone out there thinks this is a good price for an OEM 45gig? By the way, it's from West-Tech, and I ordered from them before and everything went fine.

I think that is a good deal.
My friend bought 2 of thoes for a raid0 setup.
He bought them for about 199 piece a month ago.
Then it dropped to 189.
That is the lowest ive see.
Im tempted to pick one up =D
 
Too bad Buy.com is sold out of them. Personally I wouldn't mind paying a few bucks more to get it a few weeks faster.
 
Price is down to $161 for those who haven't bought it yet (I'm annoyed the price went DOWN instead of up, heh!). Would have made me feel I got a better deal. Darn West-Tech.

Just FYI, shipping for two of these was $22.

Amazon was selling them for $213 before they ran outta stock (coulda used the $50 off $200 coupon). Nuts again.

If it's money you're really trying to save, there is a thread on the Maxtor 40gig drive for $89 after you apply coupons and such, just search this forum for it. I'd say this is a much better deal for only 5 gb less.

I agree with Devinemartyr, there's a better deal on the Maxtor, AND it comes with a warranty. OEM parts usually don't include a warranty.
 
the only OEM parts i see that come with warranty longer than 30 days or 30 feet are HDs. so yes, these should come with at least 1 to 3 years warranty.

as for the maxtor deal, i thought staples ran out of these drives. Office depot (OD) defaintly has, called them up earlier this morning (4am PST--i was working on my term paper due in 1hr;i'm at school now ;p) and said that they have to wait for maxtor to make more of these HDs.

i wanted to do it but no dice.

Look guys, I asked this question a while ago. I don't care too much about the IBM anymore after seeing that Maxtor 40GB deal. I missed out on that one due to stock insufficiency by OD and Staples. But, I'm already on the lookout for the next one. I'm sure some other place will have a similar offer soon, seeing as how HD prices are falling, and if OD could afford to sell that Maxtor for 119, then that's probably what others could sell if for too! I just gotta wait for their sale.😉
 
I bought two of those drives from West Tech for my current setup. I got them in two days and have them running RAID-0 configuration and all I can say is that they are fast! I am happy and the price (including ~$20 shipping) was still a good deal. I also have a Maxtor 40GB drive and the IBM's whisper in comparison to the noise level of the Maxtor (which is not that loud itself). I like both brands so this is not really a Maxtor vs. IBM post. I just got a better deal on the IBM's. Plus, Anand reviewed this drive and it came out best in its class.
 
I agree, the Deskstars are crazy fast, quiet, and get the job done. Just wish I could bring myself to splurge on another drive for a RAID configuration like yours. Oh the speed...
 
$166 is a fair price, I bought one 2 weeks ago for $171 only because I was buying alot of parts from the same place to save shipping costs. $171 isn't even the best price out now.
 
I just lost 30gb of data on a maxtor 60gb drive on an abit kt7

search for "maxtor kt7" on dejanews.

I STRONGLY suggest getting IBM over maxtor now.
