Found this deal @ PcSurplusOnline. NEW IBM 11.3" TFT Replacement Screen for ThinkPad 760 for $29.99 plus reasonable shipping. I only wish one of you might know how to use these outside the realm of a notebook.
PS. This site seem to have few other goodies as well.

This is something I've always wondered about. Why is it so difficult to convert this for other uses. i.e. video or to a desktop.

i'm sure there is a way to use it for that... but you'll just need an adapter for the video display and also figure out the power supply, since it would rely on the laptop power... but if you find an easy way, then i'd easily drop money for four of them.

No kidding, I have a friend that has been tinkering around with the idea for a bit.

I post with any breakthroughs.

Forget it. You will never be able to use it outside of that model notebook. Every time a hot deal on one of these pop up, the peeps who hang out on HT get 10,000 questions on how to convert them for other uses.

Short answer: Not possable.
Long answer: Possable with inside knoledge ( if you know someone who works for the laptop manufaturer and can get a schematic and the correct converter, then go for it ) Just a converter will run 100-200 if you can EVEN find one. Good luck. This will flat out be a waste to anyone who buys one wanting to use it out side of that EXACT laptop.
