...how compatibile is Linux with the i815 chipset (after disabling all of the onboard crap). Anyone running Linux on i815 based board? any traps? things to watch out for? thanks

HigherGround,
I haven't installed Linux on my MSI 815e Pro yet but according to MSI's site it is certified to be Linux compatible.

thanks for the answer, but is anyone actually running Linux on the i815(E) board? I'm looking for specific users because the lab is getting 12 PCs based on Intel's I815E board, all of which will be equipped with Linux. Some of the config procedures (and maybe the installation itself) will become my responsibility, hence I want it to be as painless as possible.

one more thing I will be partially adm. the machines so if someone can help me i'll do my best to set up a crack farm (for AnandTech RC5 effort)...well, the truth is I'll do that anyway, but if i get get my hardware facts straight this week, maybe we'll order the first batch and i'll start cracking even sooner :)

I've installed RH 7.0 on a Dell OptiPlex GX115, which has an 815E chipset, and it worked fine.

I have Gentus Linux 3.0A (Abit distro based of Redhat 6.2) installed on a CUSL2. Has built in support for onboard video and ATA100. I'm not sure if Redhat 7.0 has this.
