OK, I know it's supposed to suck, but how bad is the video in the i810 integrated motherboards? I'm thinking about getting one for something (not gaming) and maybe put around a 800mhz celeron in it. What resolution can it run at the desktop?

How bad is it for gaming? I mean, can it run something like StarCraft nicely? How about Half-Life at some resolution like 640x480 or 800x600? Celeron 800, 256 mb ram possibly.

It can run Half-Life at 640x480 at an acceptable speed (this is when running with a Celeron 500MHz). It will have moments of slow-down which is common with Half-Life on any graphics card, but for it to be bearable, I dont recommend going over 640x480 in Half-Life.

Hope that helps. You might be better off with a 800MHz chip (100MHz FSB vs. 66MHz and SSE support) as Half-Life is dependant on CPU speed as well as graphics speed.

LOL.

Hey crazed, i have no idea about the answer to your questions but the sky is blue and the cow jumped over the moon.

Anyway... the 810 integrated graphics are pretty slow, but if you water down the settings you should be able to play CS at 640x480 without excessive aggrivation. Starcraft should be OK.

I have that POS in my box.
For office use it's good. Used to run 1152*864 with no problem.
For gaming it's not very powerful. I could run Sportscar GT at 640*480 with no problems on a Celeron 500.

But got tired of it and upgraded with a GF2 MX PCI card!

StarCraft runs fine on my i810 w/ 550mhz cel. I'm running the desktop at 1152x864x24 on a crappy KDS VS90 monitor and it works fine. I've never tried any 3d games unless you consider Minigolf 3d :) Out of curiousity I'm gonna install HL and see how it runs.

By all means do not go out and use the i810 video chipset. It is such garbage. When playing videos you can see how incredibly horrible it is at scaling, and the picture quality is awful. Gaming performance is abysmal as well. I suggest you get a cheap matrox pci graphics card or ANYTHING ELSE, because the i810 is GARBAGE.

The i810 sucks for just about any purpose IMO.

I have in the box Im typing this on, the 2D is very sub par(ok to 1024, above it becomes blurry), and the 3D isn't even useful.
Tried a bit of Quake1 on it, sure it ran, but it wasnt fast, around the same speed as my ole Permedia2 I'd say.
Acceptable perhaps for a slow paced single player game or something.

These days Im running a PCI Voodoo3 instead, and a SBLive instead of the built in sound, so much better :)

Well, the thing is that I'm thinking about getting this 17cm x 17cm miniature motherboard that's based on the i810 chipset. I'm not using it for gaming or anything intensive, but I was just wondering. It has NO pci slots or any other sort of expansion so I can't put in a new video card.

moocat, how did it run? :p

Integrated accelerators suck for 3D gaming and the i810 controller is no different. Get an i815ep chipset instead and a full AGP 3D accelerator.

Well, I'm not interested for this computer to be used for gaming. I was just wondering IF it could, but I wouldn't go for something else if it couldn't.

I built a little rig for my daughter based on the "barbie PC" it uses the 810 chip. 2D is not bad at 1024x768 on her 17" Samsung, her gaming is limited to "The Sims" and "Monopoly Tycoon", and it works good for her. Sweet little rig for the price and she's happy.

I haven't had time to install HL on the i810 machine. I work a 3x12 weekend schedule and it's pretty much eat/sleep/work Fri-Sun :)

HL will run on 810, get latest drivers and run at low res in opengl mode. It is definintly playable, as is Max Payne, again at low res. I have an 810 emachines, I oc'd with sfb to 747 (its a 600). Great for office work, latest intel drivers make a playable machine in some games.
