I700m battery usage

I believe he has 4 cell battery. Anyway, I don't know if I did the right thing explaining to him in my own opinon about battery used up real fast when use with webcam (Logitech webcam 4000 model) and wireless use. Am I right? I hope so so what other thing should I know what make battery used up so quickly?

We both are deaf so he depends on his webcam to communicate with other deaf friends and relay service to his family, etc on his new Dell 700m.

He is going to get 8 cell battery but it costs 200 buck...kinda expensive for him but I told him that 700m is new for this year right? It takes a while for OEM battery to come out?

700M isn't new for this year from what I remember. I don't know much about OEM batteries to be honest. Try eBay or google it.

Yes, webcam and wireless drain battery. Anything you plug into a USB port draws power from the computer, and a webcam will use a lot of it. That machine will probably get about 2 hours normal usage on a 4-cell, so 1 hour isn't unreasonable.

At the website in my sig, we've got two articles on maximizing your battery life (Basic and Advanced). Depending how computer savvy you or your roomie are, give them a try 🙂

with a bit of power management - setting screen to 50%, turn off wireless if not using, you will get 2.5+ hours with the 4 cell battery.

keep the notebook plugged into a wall outlet when able. Usually there are wall outlets everywhere on campus... library, classrooms, etc. Only outdoors is where you run into problems with that idea.

thank you guys..my roomie is learning as he read those messages.
He still not sure if he should buy 8 cell battery.

Buy the battery. When your laptop dies after 1 hr. and you have nowhere to charge, you have yourself a [$insert price of laptop] paperweight.

just keep an eye out for coupons and/or deals. 20% to as much as 30% off coupons have been around.
