So i have a d0 i7, had it for probably over a year. Hit 3.2 Ghz without any issues at all in one try at fairly low voltage.

Now I am stuck there. If i increase the mhz even a tiny amount i will get small instability in bfbc2. I don't see any issues when I run intel burn test for 5 loops on very high.

The changes I made that created instability were:

bclk from 160 to 165

cpu to 1.25 from 1.2 (cpuz shows 1.185)
ioh from 1.1 to 1.2

dram change to 8x so that ram does not run above 1600 rated spec.

Anyone have a suggestion on what the culprit might be. I can run intel burn test x5 all the way up to 3.6ghz but i get blue screens randomly when playing bfbc2 at that setting.

Also I can choose 21 multiplier but it will not "stick" in bios it keeps changing itself back to 20.

So far I have used
intel burn test which worked fine,

bfbc2 which will crash to desktop sometimes especially if i press tab during gameplay to check the score, sometimes crash to bluescreen. bccode 104

i just ran 3dmark vantage on a loop which worked fine in xtreme settings but on performance it was crashing with an error that said fullscreenstate was lost.

i upped the voltage on both cpu and qpi by one measurement in the bios, also i downed the uncore bandwidth from 20x multiplier to 18x.

i reran the test and it completed.

isnt there a template or something somewhere for me to give you all the relevant info?

I upped the voltage on the pll and qpi one measure and i have better stability but still not stable, kind of starting to feel like it isn't worth it to go higher. I was able to get up to 3.2 without changing almost anything.

I would take the vcore and qpi voltage into 1.3V territory.

As long as you can keep temps reasonable.

A rational choice.

I wouldn't expect much more than 3.2 without taking the voltages up though. I don't see the issue with 1.3v unless you have insufficient cooling for it. I've been running 1.36v core and 1.335v QPI @ 4.2GHz for almost 2 years without issue. I am under water however.

Which Corsair RAM do you have.....XMS, Dominator, etc.? My Dominator memory has its 1600 speed rating done at a voltage of 1.65V and I have it set in BIOS at 1.64V. Helped stability a lot. (I've got an i7 920 D0 at 4GHZ under water.)

I've got my vCore at 1.275V, also. Wouldn't hurt to boost your vCore up a tad, either.

I have xms 1600. The RAM ran fine at 1.6v even at 1600 mhz speeds when my processor was at 3.2

Again. I do not think I should bump the vcore up more - i was able to run 3.2ghz with bios set to 1.2v (1.1850 shown) now I am up to 1.25v almost and bios shows 1.24 - large jump from 300 mhz. I think the problem must be somewhere else.

I have my ram multiplier down to 8 and my uncore at 18 should i change uncore to 16 to match ramx2?

up to 1.3v is necessary. I run 1.4v on my C0. That is CPUZ voltage. In the Bios it is 1.43v or so.

which BIOS are you using? Im running FI.

Also once again I am going to state that I do not think it is a good trade 1.3v to make it to 3.5?

I'll take 1.3v for 3.9.

d0 needs less voltage than c0

You need more volts and if you do not feel ok with that, then you have to stay where you are. Just that simple I have to run 1.38v cpu and 1.4 QPI to get 4.2 and I am on air. If you get into the 1.3x voltage you may go over 3.5ghz though. I also have my Corsair cas7 memory at 1.64v to run 16xx. If you have good cooling 1.3xxv will be fine 24/7.

F6 Bios is what I use. I never break about 55C with normal gaming under the Megahalem. My CPU may last longer than a stock clocked I7 with a stock cooler as I am well within the max voltage. I believe the stock Bios voltage is 1.285V for my chip so I only bumped it up a bit over .15v which is not much. I have seen very few 4.0 D0's at less than 1.3v. In April my I7 will have run at this voltage for 2 years so you should not worry about 1.3-1.35v. My CPU has a weak QPI so I can't run my RAM at 1600 at this speed, but there isn't much of a speed increase from memory anyway.
