Did you RDP into Aigo's computer and take a screen shot? ;)

ROFLMAO..

no i opt'd out of the 995, because i want the G3 SSD's. :hmm:

The 995 is a glorified 990, which is a glorified 980X.

Meaning they all share the same stepping as of so far, so there nothing special.

really? I thought that the 990 and 995 had the new stepping? Or is it nothing more than upping stock core multi?

Looks like they've almost run out of numbers.

I wonder if they'll do an i7-999X at 3.73GHz just to finish it off.

I yearn for those days where SKU's actually had a sizable performance delta between them.

Remember 486 DX-20, 486 DX-33, DX2-66, and DX4-100? Now there were some serious performance deltas based just on the cpu you popped into the socket.

What do we get now, mediocre incremental GHz deltas? Yawn.

Those were also the days the thermal requirements skyrocketed. I think the 486's were fanless, and in a span of few years went to needing a high quality fan just to keep it from burning.

The original Pentium had TDP in the single digit range, as a desktop CPU!

no i was searching and searching for that new stepping.
if its coming out, its not coming out even for sample til next year.

And i heard there is no more stepping btw, there rolling 2011.

I thought all this time you were saying they had a new stepping.

well my sponsor told me... after hashing it out, we came to the conclusion its a glorified 980X

so is B1 still the best oc stepping for the hexcores?

As far as I know, B1 is the only stepping for Gulftown. Bought mine in early April. It's a B1.

aigomorla, what do you give your sponsor in exchange for CPUs and other hardware? I don't see reviews or anything other than the occasional cropped screenshot :hmm:

Not speaking for Aigo, but just to say in general one motivation for seeding engineering samples and pre-retail steppings is to the same reason Microsoft does pre-release OS RTM's and RC's and so forth.

It's all about getting higher-than-typical quality in the feedback regarding stability and bug-reports.

Now Aigo's charter might not touch on that, but a good number of sponsored folks out there do fall under this scope in purpose.

The early engineering samples included A0 and B0. I guess B1 is still the latest and only retail stepping though.

hi,

i waiting for this chip since a long time...

but my great question is : how many time intel will wait to release a sandy bridge extreme cpu which will be more powerfull than this last core i7 ?

i don't want buy it if intel release a xtreme SD 2 month after it !

the 2 cpu's are completely different class.

one is a HEXCORE.
The other is a QUADCORE.

You dont buy 1 for the other, unless your purely want bragging rights.

Which then you should be waiting for LGA2011.

A0:

Was introduced as the Q3QP for the EE class gulftown.
Was a monster overclocker, however suffered from 1 major flaw.
A very weak IMC which had a habit of dying.
I and a lot of my friends all ended up losing 1. It was a sad sad day.

B0:
Capture-1.jpg

First retail version for the 980X. Offered a much more robust memory controller.
Chips were more durable then the A0, but still somewhat fragile.

B1:
990X.png

The current stepping intel uses.
980X 990X 995X to my knowledge all share the B1 stepping.
This stepping is a lot more durable then its predecessors, however there not as durable as the bloomfields.

Meaning id put money on my bloomfield not dying faster.

Until someone shows me a new stepping, im gonna say the 990 and 995 are just glorified 980X's.
Meaning, there better bin'd.

LOL... i know..
I really slowed down in the previewing department.

Now i just mostly get samples to test cooling hardware on them.
For example.. i get a gulftown processor, and load it.
Then record the heat value though math on the displacement it does on my LCS.

Then i take that and usually report it to my sponsor @ different overclock.

Since im on water, and i know exact numbers, its easier to get a good guessimate of wattage.

Then there is the occasional lets run til she drops theme's i play... :T

But ive been slowing down... i intend to do a review soon on gpu's and how a waterblock affects it.
BnH Photo wont mail me my 580GTX tho.... lol...
