Intel Employees can buy 1 retail chip per a certain time frame I believe, or maybe it's 1 per model, at a discounted price.

Hello there guys, this is a emergency call, I need your quick take on this processor. If you had to pay Half Price on this processor $495 out the door would you guys get this processor? Also knowing that next year there will be a new Socket (LGA 2011). Would this be a good upgrade from my current processor QX9770?

Please Share Thoughts?

You can at least resell for profit.

Why would you need a "connection" to get a retail chip? And if Intel allows their employees to sell parts off (i know for a fact they don't) for 1/2 or retail or less, wouldn't retailers be pissed?

It's not like a person working in a car factory can get cars for 1/2 price can they? and if they CAN, something ain't right.

They don't and it's grounds for getting fired. So I hope the OP doesn't help get his cousin fired if he considers reselling. You are however allowed to resell it after several years of purchase (when it finally becomes worthless). I don't have the exact terms but it's something like 3 years.

That is why I suggested he rethink what he intends to do with the chip. If he wants to use it, fine but reselling it could land people into hot water.

My contacts at the fab suggests otherwise. I was advised that they can get retail pieces at somewhat discounted rates, but nothing like 1/2 price. Anything being sold for that low of a price was likely stolen from the plant and will get someone in serious trouble for being sold or even used outside the facility or authorized user base.

How are they going to know if he resells it if it is a retail version? Is there a GPS tracker inside? I have heard of relatives getting free Intel processors for Xmas.
