Hello there guys, this is a emergency call, I need your quick take on this processor. If you had to pay Half Price on this processor $495 out the door would you guys get this processor? Also knowing that next year there will be a new Socket (LGA 2011). Would this be a good upgrade from my current processor QX9770?

Please Share Thoughts?

it's the fastest processor you can get for $999, therefore it would also be the fastest processor you can get for $495.

At half price I would jump on it with about 0.1 second of consideration.

That is the only reason that I am looking at this processor. I was hoping that I would have gotten it for free becuase my Cuz works for Intel, but he is one of those person, who doesn't care about this stuff. So I told him get me the cheapest price and I will pay him. So that is why I wanted to get your thoughts before I say Yes and Pay $500 Bucks.

For half price, I wouldn't hesitate. Even if a cheaper part comes out it won't be much cheaper, and you still have a bonus unlocked multiplier.

Since I bought one for full price I'd have to say that buying one at half price should be a no-brainer. Do it to it!

LGA 2011 won't be out until Q3 2011! So you are looking at 12 months away at least. You can also resell the processor and get i7 930 + mobo + ram.

Speaking of that, does anyone know when the cheaper core i7 970 will come out?

I'd still take a Phenom II X6 before that, but only because when I build a PC I'm very budget oriented and go for price/performance rather than high end performance that holds a price premium. I built my first PC is 06, I still haven't spent over $150 on a cpu before, or any other single computer component for that matter. lol

I would take it for that price if I wanted a top of the line build, so if you can afford it and don't mind spending the money go for it, it'll be a good upgrade. However, depending what you do with your rig, you may be better off just getting an I7 930.

Lets just say I have Connection and Regarding the AMD, I am Intel FanBoy and I will not build AMD Systems. Don't get me wrong, I have build them in the past, but I am Intel Only. I did help AMD with me buying ATI 5850 Card.

+1 for buying it and reselling it. It would basically pay for the upgrade. Are there any applications that you use that take advantage of the extra two cores?

And if you sell that CPU, you run the risk of getting your "connection" into serious trouble.

Hey, why didn't I have a "connection" when I was looking to buy a 980X? I would like to have this "connection" for any future CPU purchases.

Not if it's a retail chip :hmm:

Why would you need a "connection" to get a retail chip? And if Intel allows their employees to sell parts off (i know for a fact they don't) for 1/2 or retail or less, wouldn't retailers be pissed?

It's not like a person working in a car factory can get cars for 1/2 price can they? and if they CAN, something ain't right.

The obvious answer is buy 100 of them to resell to all your buddies here on ATOT. Don't let us down!
