I have an i7-920 that is not overclocked at all.

Looking to buy the most powerful video card for this that will not be CPU limited?

Can anyone suggest the best video card.

Cheers

the more info you give, the better. what video card do you have now and what does the rest of your system look like including power supply? what resolution are you wanting to play at?

Game at 1920x1200

well that's the important stuff. you do need to list the exact model of psu when you get a chance though. if its a very good psu then you can get any single gpu that you want as long as you are not going bananas with overclocking your i7 and new gpu.

if you have been happy with your Nvidia experience then I would just go with a gtx570.

6990 is the most powerful video card there is, but you'd need to overclock your CPU to get the most out of it. At stock the CPU is not fast enough for the card.

Thanks for the feedback, as for games I play, well nothing at present really, just trying to upgrade for BF3.

Not really clear at this stage how demanding BF3 will be.

If the trailers are anything to judge by the game is going to be able to make use of all the GPU power you can throw at it.

Not really clear at this stage how demanding BF3 will be.

Early benchmark leaks show a gtx560ti never dropping below 40fps and avg about 50fps @1900x1080 highest setting in direct x 11. It looks to be a little more demanding (20%) than BBC2.

My overclocked gtx460 should play it without any slowdown @ 1600x1050 easily.
Any Core 2 9xxx quad at 2.8 or Phenom II x4 at 3.0 should be fine also.

If they made it more demanding than that, they would lose 50% of
there sales.

Its possible they will have 1 or 2 settings that hardly any system can run like Metro with DOF and such.
