i7-870 vs X3470 for gaming

Hi everyone. I'd like to upgrade my current system which has an LGA 1156 motherboard and i5-750. I was wondering, now that the CPUs are pretty cheap, if it's better to upgrade to an i7-870 (2.93 GHz), X3470 (2.93 GHz), or try to overclock the i5-750 (2.66 GHz) for gaming? I plan to get a GTX1060 to replace the current GTX460.

Thank you!

OC the i5 to as high as you can, at 3.6GHz and above it should be fine for the GTX 1060 (just get the 6GB).
If you can find the Core i7 870 at a very low price just go with it for the extra 4x Threads and OC as well.

I'm running a 870 with a 290x and it for sure is a bottleneck in some cases for the GPU. I don't think it's worth it to upgrade. Try a OC first with current CPU. If it doesn't suck you should reach 3.8 ghz easily. (i have mine at 3.8 ghz with turbo enabled and only a minimal voltage bump).

EDIT:

But will upgrade to 7700k or skylake-x also due to platform.
