I reapplied thermal paste after filling voids in heatsink and temps went down noticeably. This was the third time I had applied paste, actually. Before I was using less. I think the solution here to decrease temps would be to delid...

As for BIOS updates: I am using a gigabyte GA-Z87X-UD4H with the latest (non-beta) BIOS. I have been apprehensive of beta bioses ever since I tried one from ASUS and bricked the mobo...

I don't know if it matters, these temps might be OK anyway

Just did a delid. Didn't exactly go smoothly (I used the vice method), but the PCB popped out and fell on a corner and was damaged a tiny bit, also scratched up the edges of the heatspreader, but I lapped those parts. Anyway, seems like temps dropped about 20 degrees and now the p95 small FFT test that was causing thermal throttling in 5 secs seems to be stable around 80. Hopefully my CPU doesn't die prematurely from that messed up corner. In fact I bet I could get a better application of thermal paste and the temps would drop a bit further, but I really just wanted to know if it would still work. It does!

Is it weird that one core is consistently 8-10 degrees lower than the others? I thought that would clear up with a delid job.
