I'm trying to figure out if I can build a system with this setup.

i7-4770K cooled by H70 with 2 Ultra Kaze Fans, overclocked
Asrock Z87E-ITX
Potentially GTX 780, overclocked
1 SSD, 1 7200RPM HDD
1 DVDRW

Will a 450W ST45SF be able to handle that load? I know a 3770K + 680 would be fine, but on some of the reviews the numbers on the 4770K and 780 are surprisingly higher than their last-gen counterparts.

Likely. The setup in my signature only uses ~220W playing BF3. about 200W running Linpack. I'd go with a 500W to be safe though.

Should not be a problem.

AnandTech GTX 780 review

405W from the wall under load. Their test rig specs:
Intel Core i7-3960X @ 4.3GHz
EVGA X79 SLI
Antec True Power Quattro 1200
Samsung 470 (256GB)
G.Skill Ripjaws DDR3-1867 4 x 4GB (8-10-9-26)

Hardly a power efficient system, with a nearly ancient and merely 80% efficient PSU and a 130W TDP CPU that is further overclocked. The single SSD is power efficient of course, but your HDD will hardly add a few watts, maybe 10W during writes and otherwise 4W or so idling.

Yep, you'll be fine. ST45SF is a solid unit with 432W on the +12V.

However I would not get a 780, the 770 is so much better value for money. Rather sell&upgrade in 1 yr

Thanks guys.

I'll have to make the decision between what card to pick when I do it, but I want it to be able to handle my worst case load (OC'ed 4770K and a higher-end card). Looks like I can even squeeze by with a 690 if I don't overclock everything.

Welll in theory maybe, but it'd be a bit risky to run the PSU for a long time at about 400W with nothing by the GPU stressed 100%. Besides, the unit doesn't have the necessary connectors (2x8 pin).
