Damn it Im just doing a fresh reinstall for the second time now.. errr very frustrating!!
I wonder how well ubuntu plays with this cpu and a xfx7970?? do they even have proper drivers out yet for this higher end stuff??

When I was on Ubuntu, my 660ti had drivers from nvidia. It worked fine. But would jump on windows for the best experience. (IMHO)

Im kinda having buyers remorse now since I already own a 6 core 12 thread L5639..
Thinking that maybe I should of just bought some better cooling and tried over clocking it instead of speading $570 for a 4930k 🙁
Although I also already purchased a X79 UP4 motherboard before hand getting ready for this upgrade.
Err I am very impulsive!!

You have 2 MONSTER machines! Don't be remorseful! Enjoy, Celebrate! Go kick anythings as** that stands in their way!

Well I'm super glad I didnt buy that E5-2670.
I went to my friends house last night and brought my system over with my L5639 in it to compare to my friends dads E5-2670 that he was trying to sell me.
My system completely destroyed that piece of crap!!
We ran Cinebench R11.5 and with my system overclocked to a nice stable 3.6GHz to make up for the 2 missing core VS. The E5-2670 2.6Ghz and 3.3GHz turbo...
I scored just under 11 points and the E5-2670 scored 8.15 points ??
We also ran the first crysis game maxed out all the settings and I was getting 59-79FPS while the E5-2670 was only getting 39-67??
Both systems used the same memory same xfx7970 ect..
The biggest plus is I can overclock my cpu he couldn't even get a +1Mhz out of that thing with out it Bsod'ing.
I cant believe my $80.00 cpu completely destroyed that $1600.00 cpu??
How much fast is the 4930K I just bought going to be over my L5639 overclcoked to 3.6Ghz??

Not an apples to apples comparison, but if you need the extra cores the 8 core will perform well. As stated elsewhere, most people simply don't need 8 cores.

Something is odd about that picture. It would be educational if you could post those scores in the Cinebench thread along with CPUZ info.
