It looks like Turbo Boost is enabled though, as I see the processor is running at 3.8 GHz at full load. I don't really know how this is possible, since it is being max threaded and you're only supposed to use Turbo when cores are idle. It's relatively confusing...

Pretty sure the 2600k will turbo to 3.8 on all cores as long as it within it's max temp range

So, I didn't think that it would be nice if I didn't provide an update in my own thread about my progress. I'm happy, but not completely. I just got the CM Hyper 212 Plus, and it has prevented me from seeing those 80C temps, but now they are only down to high 60s to low 70s. A nice improvement, but not that significant under a torture test. Also, this is without overclocking enabled.

Edit: One other thing I noticed is that I can wiggle the CM Hyper 212 Plus around a bit after it has been securely mounted. I figure this is normal, but I'm including it just in case anyone else has experienced something different. It looks like the little peg on the block doesn't align perfectly with the groove on the mounting bracket. If anyone has experienced this, or if this sounds like a problem, I would appreciate it if someone could bring it to my attention.

All of your cores are running at 3.8 in your test there. Thus, your temps are pretty good.

I can confirm the 212+ moves around a bit even when you lock it in there. Not a big deal.

32ish idle 65ish load with a h70 (varies a bit depending on ambient)

Your core voltage is high in my opinion. See if you can lower the voltage and remain stable. Decreasing the voltage will lower temperatures during both idle and load conditions. For reference, my 4.4ghz voltage droops to around 1.12 under 100% load.

Everything has been left at stock, so vcore jumps are not a result of any over of underclocking, more likely inherent overclocks via TurboBoost. This will remain a stock build, so I'm not going to touch the core voltages.

Also, what do you mean the voltage DROPS to 1.12 under 100% load? Do you mean the voltage increases to this? I'm fairly new to overclocking, but I am taking an interest in it for my own 2600k system.

Finally, thanks to everyone who confirmed that there is a bit of wiggle room on the 212+. I thougth so after reading a few reviews about it, but I just wanted to make sure.

The stock HSF on my 2500k didnt appear to be any good either, idle around 35 and shoot up to high 80's and even 90s at load. Got the 212+, and idling around 29 now with fans low...I havent tortured the cpu yet as waiting for the AS5 to settle....but running at 4ghz

I just did the same.

With the stock cooler I was getting good idle temp at 35-38C, but under Prime95 it shot up to 98C in few seconds.

With the CM Hyper 212 Plus now I get 25C idle and 64C under load. Furthermore, the new cooler is a lot more silent. My stock cooler was doing a weird noise.
For the $30 I spent I couldn't be happier, even though the cooler seems a little crooked downward (I guess it's normal and due to the weight of the heatsink).

The DROP in voltage under peak load is known as VDroop. Someone with a better technical understanding can surely explain exactly what VDroop is... i can, however; explain what i observe.

My system IDLES with the core voltage hovering around 0.9v
With all 4 cores running at 50% load, the system voltage registers around 1.24v
With all 4 cores running at 100% load, the system voltage registers around 1.21v

The difference between the 50% load voltage and the 100% load voltage (which is less) is the observed effect of VDroop. Why does it do that? I don’t know.

Have a core i7 2600K with a thermalright ultra 120 running at about 1.28v at idle and 1.264 under load oced to 4.4ghz.

It idles at 25 degrees. Load is 56-58 degrees C. Excellent chip. Load line calibration is off. Tempted to try and drop voltages some more. But maybe not today.

2600k in a Asus P8P67 Deluxe - Only temp monitoring software ive been able to use thats the same reading as the ASUS software that came with the MB is Realtemp. i've been a long hard fan of SpeedFan merely because of the charting option. but it is given me -60 on the CPU. anyone know of another temp monitoring prog that is similar to that charting option?
