i built my i5 rig in november last but just february my 4870 card bit the dust... what i'd like to know is... is it possible to run my chip @ 4.0 ghz and use the gfx component ? or should i just run them both at stock... i use a coolermaster hyper 212+ for cooling with 1 fan on it... motherboard is the Asrock Z68 Pro

It depends on what you are doing with it. I was using the IGP on my 2500K for the past 4 months, it was fine except in heavy gaming.... maybe about 10% of the computers entire workload. If you are talking generic computer tasks, I think it would be fine.
