Amidst all the BF, CM, and now CW BS did you happen to spot a deal on a high performance Ivy i5 or i7 laptop with a 14-15" 1080 screen?

I just ordered a Thinkpad W530 with the FHD screen and quad core. You can combine the CM deal with the B&N discount (free to sign up); I think I got 25% off total.

Also look at the y500 (difference is gt 650 instead of 660-not really much of a difference. The ODD can be swapped out for more battery, hard drive or you can go sli gt 650m--note sli disables optimus so battery life tanks), similar to the y580 slightly better price.

Actually I just bought the y580, seems pretty good, haven't had time to test it out really. Only pet peeve is the keyboard flex, god its bad. Webcam is absolute crap (but i never use it), like those 90's camera's bad.

Just bought this Y500:

After flawless experience with 3 HP notebooks (going strong in the home and with two college kids) in the past 3 years, decided to give Lenovo a try. I do have a Lenovo work laptop (T410) that has never been problematic. I have heard negatives about their CS though, we will see.

However, I believe I scored an excellent deal on this one ($909 plus taxes with free S&H). The slight lower (650 GPU, 3632 CPU (albeit 35W vs. 45W for the 3630) and slower(?) memory, but 16 GB) speed components over a Y580 or differently spec'd Y500 will not matter to me. I chatted with Lenovo CS and they said that build quality was similar, but the Y500 was a step above the Y580. Initially had the Y580 in my cart. I only hope this one has a backlighted keyboard.

Y580 is the same price
http://slickdeals.net/f/5782324-Len...DR3-RAM-15-6-1920x1080-1TB-HD-Blu-ray-900-tax but doesn't have the 16gb SSD.

However, you'd want at least at least a 60gb SSD to make it useful anyway. I supposed you could get away with 32GB SSD if you just put OS + Browser on it.

Y500 is newer and has a better design/cooling. You could go SLI with y500 but that's a bit excessive and probably invites other issues as I don't recall multi-gpu solutions with ultrabay before this model so there are bound to be bugs.

EDIT: Ha, found the biggest flaw with the y500. Because of SLI capabilities, it doesn't support Optimus, hence no using integrated graphics. There goes the battery life... Also, many complain false advertisement of switchable graphics and WIDI (Intel integrated graphics thing) capabilities.
