Just reading the blurbs for them on this forum, the second one (the 10th-Gen) has the updated iGPU, FHD (1080P display), and an SSD standard. The first one only has 1TB SATA HDD, which is going to be markedly slower, and probably isn't 1080P, if they aren't touting it.

Is there a major price difference between the two where you are at? If not, get the 10th-Gen (second laptop listed) for sure.

Don't forget that AMD's 4000-series Ryzen APUs are going to start showing up very soon in laptops as well, and they will offer 8 cores in 15W TDP, with graphics!. Really amazing 7nm technology, they are actually AHEAD of Intel at this point.

If you don't game 8265U is a much better choice since it has four real cores (1005G1 is a two-core CPU) but then you'll want to install an SSD drive instead. If you game ... well, they both suck.

Lets wait an see how many "thin and light" laptops have, or even need, 8 cores and at what price. As far as being "ahead" they certainly are not ahead in mobile with the chips that are avaliable now.

So, let me get this straight, you don't consider it a significant advance, that one of the major x64 CPU vendors has released (?) a mobile CPU/APU, that can fit 8 cores (with SMT?) in a 15W TDP envelope? Because, why? "No one needs more than 640KB four cores."

Intel is certainly still leading the industry in at least one metric though - total of known exploits for their CPUs.
