Just installed my new intel 760 cpu with its included HSF and noticed that the temps were in the high 30's. Cooler appears to be making good contact so I wanted to ask the users here if this is a normal temp. The case sides were off.

Haven't done load temps yet because I had to go to work but the thing is that the C1E was on and the speed of the cpu was down and the temps were still that high. In the bios, it showed 51.5 degrees which I assume was the normal speed for the cpu. Gonna turn off Speedstep when I get home tonight and check but any idea what the normal speed should be at idle?

Idle in the 30's seems normal....The reading in bios is not an unloaded temp reading and is always higher. The extent of the loading in bios is ??? unkown.

Use something like Intel Burn Test to see what your loaded temps are. The stock coolers do suck but are adequate for those whom don't overclock as long as the case has good airflow.

What are your system specs?

thats normal dude, what do you expect the idle temps to be? Even with my NH-D14 at stock speed my CPU idled at 28-32c.

Yep sounds normal to me as well. With the stock heatsink if you idling at around 35c your doing pretty good!

Thanks for the feedback. I installed the SilenX low profile HSF I had laying around and the temps are still around 38-39 but quieter. Prime took it to 57 degrees. I ordered an 1156 bracket for my Xigmatek 1283 which should cool it even better.

I just got my new i5 760 build up and running and it is showing an idle temp in the low 30's on the stock heatstink. What is your room temp?

The i5 760 stock heatsink-fan is likely sufficient for productivity software/internet but if you're looking to game or are into overclocking then an aftermarket hsf will be a great investment. I think it was at stock speed at the time but while gaming I noticed it would get up to about ~50*C with the stock hsf.

Now, at a clock speed of 4.0GHz and Vcore=1.248V, I've got a Coolermaster V6 which achieves the same temperatures, heh.

Its a great overclocker's chip!

Room temp is 68 but even with the new SilenX the temps are around 38. I'm starting to wonder if something is wrong with the sensors.

With temperatures, please indicate what scale (C or F) you are using - and stick to just one!

I've started looking at aftermarket CPU cooling options for my upcoming build. The stock coolers have always sucked for anything more than web surfing/word processing. I DO NOT like having to stick some 8 lb. monster in the case though...It seems like that's a lot of stress on the motherboard...I have a Zalman CNPS 7700-Cu on my current build. I'm not too impressed with that...but it IS better than the stock P4 cooler that came with the processor.

I'm not interested in water cooling at all, and I don't think I like the Corsair "liquid coolers" much either...although they DO get good reviews.

I like the Noctua coolers, but again, they just seem too dammed big.

Your body temperature is roughly 37.5°C. Is that normal? :hmm:

Seriously though, why is everyone so freaked out about temperatures? I've learned that AMD procs are more sensitive, but stock clocked Intel procs can easily operate at up to 85°C with no ill effects. You think CPUs are hot? Check out the higher end graphics cards!

Also, Priming at 57°C is fantastic.

Geez.

I'm grumpy when I'm short on sleep.

Anyways, temperatures are like voltages. IMO there is no need to check them if your system runs fine (unless you're overclocking). You'll just end up with excuses to be worried over nothing.

how long took you to figure that one out? if they include a kickass cooler with the cpu the price probably will gone up another 50.

Let me provide some more info here. Previously I was running an AMD X3 Phenom OC'd to 3.4 Ghz with 1.35 vcore and it idled around 32C. This was with a Xigmatek cooler which I will use again when its 1156 bracket arrives. I figured the 760 from intel at 2.8Ghz and 1.082 vcore would be cooler even with the stock HSF which is why I'm so surprised to see temps in the high 30s. I replaced the stock HSF with a SilenX low profile HSF and the temps are still the same. The SilenX has 3 heatpipes so I thought it would work better than the stock. I OC'd the 760 to 4Ghz @ 1.3 vcore today raising the idle temps to mid 50's. Tried some encoding at the temps went over 80 and the system shut down. I saw on Youtube a review where the same OC was done with a Noctua HSF and temps never went above 61. This is my goal and I was surprised to see the idle temps so high to begin with.

Those noctua coolers are pretty good but they are a little pricey. I have a Noctua nh-d14 installed on a i7 920@4.2ghz and idle temps are in the upper 30's to lower 40's. Under load it barely reaches 70.

What's the fan speed? Did it ramp up? Doesn't the SilenX products favor quietness over raw performance?

Is that Fahrenheit or Celsius? If it is the latter, that is a little bit too warm. If that is Fahrenheit, then that is pretty good.
if that is Celsius then that is insanely hot for idle and if Fahrenheit then that is unbelievably cool unless under water.

Its about 1800 RPM. Thing is that with the bigger fan and copper heatpipes I thought temps would be better.
