i5 750 - am I on the safe side?

Hi!
New to overclocking, been reading up a lot but still feel kinda insecure.
Have:
XMS 3 4GB rated 1600 MHZ @ 1440 / 1.5 volt (I set it at 1.5)
i5 750 @ 180 x 20 = 3.6 GHz (Core temp)
Vcore (auto) 1.28 (CPU-Z)
QPILink 2880 (CPU-Z)
QPI/VTT 1.2 (thnx brencat)

Right now I'm running Prime95 Large FTT test.
So far so good.
Plan on also running:
LinX
Memtest

Am I on the safe here of NOT destroying my RAM/CPU?
Also, could I try lowering any of them?
Should I play around with Multi/Clock? Going to 200 on clock and lowering multi for example?

Thanks in advance

EDIT: Vcore fluctuates. When I start it sits at the 1.27 that I now set, but when I start Prime95 it actually goes down to 1.2 and then when I stop Prime95 it goes up again...?!

There should be a option in your BIOS to prevent VDROP in the motherboard. That is a very tender OC. Your not stressing your hardware or heating up with that OC. So no worries now go enjoy your new CPU. Also you didn't mention motherboard or video card. Please fill in your signature so we can help you better. gl

Can't find the setting for editing signature :(.
Setup:
Gigabyte P55A-UD3
i5 750 (@stock atm since I couldn't get it low enough where i want right now)
XMS3 4 GB
Corsair TX 750
GTX 260 (got a Gigabyte 7950 windforce incoming which is why I want/need to OC)

Now, I'm pretty new to OC'ing.
I have been at it before but before upgrading to 1156 my RAM couldn't take any OC so never happened.

My goal is somehwere around 3.6-4 GHz depending on what volts/temp I get.
It seems I have a pretty bad chip (maybe why I got the mb/cpu pretty cheap).

I'm starting to understand how the different settings affect each other.

For reference.
Right now I'm running Prime95 @ stock.
CPU-Z reports 1.184 volts.
RealTemp/CoreTemp reports 54C (highest temp).

In the end I would be satisfied with a 3.6GHz OC but I can't seem to get the MB to stay at the specified volt (as I input in the BIOS).
Of course I would like the CPU to down clock when not needed at full speed.

I understand the CPU needs more voltage when at higher speed, but what I don't understand is how high the VTT needs to be.

One way I understood how to overclock is:
1. Set multiplier to lowest (9x for me) and put RAM on lowest multiplier as well. Leave everything else at default?
2. Higher the BLCK until reach the one you want combined with the lowest VTT, correct? Is a low VTT as important as low Vcore? What VTT should be "good" at 170-180 BLCK.

Now, here is the question, if I want 3.6 GHZ there are quite a few combinations. I read somewhere that uneven multiplier often works better. Now, I also read that you want your RAM pretty close to specified speed so that means 6/8/10 * BLCK.
That means either 160/200 if I want my RAM@1600MHz.
This would mean a multiplier of 18 (since 22 doesn't work, correct?). 18 is even so that isn't good, right?
I could also go for 21x171. That means 171** = 1368MHz on RAM.

What is the best way to continue after this?

3. Set IOH (where can I find this?) to 1.3V (for one graphics cards).
This is the part I have the hardest time with, the RAM.
9-9-9-24 @ 1600MHz is the rating for my RAM. I have to sticks.
Which other stuff is directly related to the RAM? VTT and RAM voltage?

Like I said, I want somewhere around 3.6-4GHz, as high as possible, but not more than needed to not bottleneck a 7950.

Thanks in advance

I am running my i7 920 at default voltages @ 3.6Ghz through an EVGA 760 board. The engineers over there have a pretty good idea on how to set the voltages when developing a bios for their boards.

As for the RAM/Memory it doesn't really matter if your ram is under advertised speed ratings.

3.6Ghz should be enough for the system to run the Unreal Engine 3 at a comfortable performance. Depending on your resolution and the game you are playing you should feel a smoother performing game.

I've been running my i5 750 for a couple years now at 200x20 (4GHz). It was a pretty easy OC and I've never experienced any stability issues. I believe my vcore is 1.375 in BIOS, which translates to 1.36 in CPU-Z, and as I recall the only other thing that needed to be tweaked was the voltage that allows you to OC the bus (VTT, I think). Memory divider is set so that my RAM runs at 1600MHz. This is on an Asus P7P55D.

What would be the correct settings to have on for it to NOT be at 4GHz all the time with my mb, P55A-UD3?
Also, my MB doesn't seem to keep the Vcore i set?!

Could you please check your VTT, would appreciate it a lot.

Not sure why your board wouldn't keep the vcore you set. Are you sure you've got it set to "manual" and not "auto"?

I checked my settings.
20x200
vcore - 1.375
vtt - 1.300

I leave speedstep and C1E on, and my CPU throttles down to 1800MHz when idle (although it keeps the voltage the same, as I have that set to manual).

Everything else is auto, with the DRAM timing control set to give me 1600MHz with 200 bclk.

Make sure you set the memory CAS etc. manually for your DIMMS, as some boards/memory modules will not do this properly on their own.

To answer your original question, if:

1. The temps don't get too hot
2. You are not going with insane voltages (I try for the best OC I can get with NO voltage increase)
3. The system is stable

Then there is no reason to worry.

I was Able to hit 4.2ghz on my i5 750 HTPC with an Antec 620 with stock fan with Temps in spec.. Great Little Budget Cpu.
