Imo, no... But I have super confirmation bias and the most encoding I did was in the Handbrake benchmark thread and even the x6 chips from Intel weren't much faster 😉

As far as gaming goes you'd be hard pressed to find any benefit for the i7 outside of cache and clock speed in reviews.

i7 has been about to matter since the 920, and it still doesn't if that tells you anything.
 
OP you said you want to keep it for the next 5 years, so take the higher performing part now. This will serve you better than the i5 in 5 years believe me.

The i7 is just faster on a variety of applications period and it's worth $73 more.
