Motherboard is gigabyte GA-Z68-D3-B3

No matter what I change in the bios, the CPU speed is 4.2GHz. I know it worked in the past as the motherboard and CPU were used together at 5.0GHz.

If i set the multiplier to 16, 4.2GHz. I change the baseclock - 4.2GHz. Turbo on, turbo off, 4.2GHz.

...Help?

Sounds like your power settings in windows are on high performance and minimum processor is set at 100 percent.

Is there an OC button on your motherboard? My sons 2500k was stuck at 4.2 once and I couldn't get it to go back to normal no matter what I tried in the BIOS.

Turns out him and his cousin took the side panel off the tower and pushed OC Genie button without telling me. Once I turned it off everything went back to normal. This is on an MSI board though so not sure about yours.

Anyway, just throwing it out there as one possibility you can try.

Just set it to the balanced preset and it should take care of it.
