i5 2310 vs i5 2500k?

Hi, for my build, i plan to get:
-i5 2310 or i5 2500k
-Nvidia Evga gtx 660 (non-ti)
-Corsair vengeance (blue) 2 X 4gb 1600mhz
-Seagate Barracuda 2 tb
-Cooler Master Storm Scout Case mid tower
-Asus p8z77-v lx motherboard.

The reason i ask this is because on amazon, amazon is selling the Intel i5 2310 for 160 dollars and the i5 2500k for around 200. I was maybe leaning toward the i5 2310 so i save 40 bucks and i could buy an SSD or should i get the i5 2500k. Is their really a large boost in performance between the two? I tried finding benchmarks comparing the two but their aren't many available. :colbert:

The 2310 is significantly slower than the 2500k at stock speeds(2.9 GHz vs 3.3 GHz), and the thing about the 2500k is that it's unlocked -- you can boost the clock speed to higher numbers, like 4 GHz. That will be much, much faster than the 2310. You're not going to be able to get much more than a boot drive SSD for $40; I would go for the better processor

The 2310 plus ssd will be the most enjoyable experience. It will be slower in games that's cpu-limited, but it will overall be much snappier in general use. Maybe you can save some money by going for cheaper ram and find an i5 that's ivy bridge or clocked a little higher?

You can still get 4 bins increased speed out of the 2310 if you get a Z-series motherboard (even a Z75), which would result in a peak of 3.6ghz on 1 core, but I personally would have a hard time justifying not spending a few more dollars on a K CPU to go with it.

I'd suggest getting an Ivy Bridge though.
