i3-2100 and 1600mhz RAM

So I bought an i3-2100 and 1600mhz RAM for it.
My board supports 1600mhz RAM but it shows up as 1333 in the bios.

I've tried setting it to 1600mhz and changed the timings to the actual specs but I am still getting random freezes, which I know are RAM based since when it's at 1333 it doesn't freeze.

What gives? Why can't I set it to 1600?

Because the memory controller on the i3 and i5 cpus officially only supports 1333 speed memory. So it probably boils down to the fact that some chips have a better memory controller and can hack it, and some can't.

CPU-Z will tell you timing and voltage for different settings. Im guessing you may need to up the voltage a bit to get it stable.
