The 'stang is all fixed up and back on the road. He purchased a tail light bezel and lens assembly from a boneyard for $35.00. Put it on himself and he's good to go! I'm cutting him a check for QUITE A BIT more than that. They deserve it.

The autobody shop guy pointed at my bumper and said, "There's where the strength is." Everything above that crumpled like a beer can! Hey, I drove it around to get the estimates. It ain't pretty, but it's still running.

Now I have to buy another CarFAX subscription. I've already used it three times within the past year. I'm out of email addresss to use! Can't wait to get my hands on a knew ride. I wish this adjuster would hurry up! Maybe I'll get that rental car Tuesday. That'll light a fire under their butts!

"You are due for some good breaks!"

Good pun! :Q ...LOL

Gawd, the accident happened on the 15th, and the insurance adjuster just got here today! I get the impression he wants to fix this thing! He left, saying he would go over some numbers and get back to me. He mumbled something about, "Somebody around here must have a nose for this." referring to a front clip. I told him I already had estimates from two places, who thought it was totaled.

At this point I hope it is totaled. I've got my heart set on getting another. I might go for a 1995 Cartier edition. Well, until he gets back to me, it's just a dream...

Ornery you need to see a doc if you spending 6 grandon lincoln town car that is 8 years old. its only good for limo and car services. for 6 grand you can get 1999 car at car auctions where dealers send their trade ins

Okay, you didn't maintain enough distance between you and the car in front of you. But I still think it's his fault for going from a normal cruising speed to pretty much a dead stop in a trafficked road.

I just think the whole reasoning that if there is a collision and one car rear ended another, it is automatically the 2nd car's fault is highly flawed. If that is true and I don't like the look of someone behind me, what's to stop me from slamming on my brakes and letting them run into me so that they get in trouble? It's stupid.

in the state of Texas ... more then likely when you rear end someone, it your fault, even when someone cuts you off 🙁

Guess what? These guys are going to fix it! I'm having the work done at the most expensive place on the planet! They're using a front clip from another vehicle, after market windshield, etc. The guy at the shop said it was going to be pretty tight fitting it to the estimate the adjuster came up with. I told him I'd compromise, since it was my fault and I don't want to piss off the insurance company.

Here's a question: The only thing I don't like about the car is the color. I'd like to get it all painted in Portofino Blue, which is a factory color from that year. How much extra should I expect to pay for that? Any way to wheel and deal that price down? Could I threaten to take it to have the work done elsewhere if I think they're unreasonable? Just because it's going to be hard for them to do it for what the insurance is willing to pay, doesn't mean somebody else would. I'm still waiting for the check. No idea how much it's going to be, but I have a feeling I may end up having to get more out of them before this is over...

Here's another question: Wduaqnug, do you know WTF you're talking about? :frown:

Sorry to hear about the accident Ornery 🙁

No, he probably doesn't

Ornery, my 86 parisienne finally bit the dust: inside the engine, on the drivers side, something above camshaft level broke 🙁
I'm thinking possibly a lifter, maybe a valvespring, maybe a rocker.
It barely holds idle, runs very rough, and spews a lot of gas in the exhaust.
215k miles.
I'll miss that car.... don't really like my current FWD car... (91 Topaz "GS")

Sorry to hear about your wreck. I "officially" learned of my 98 SVT Contour's demise today from the wreck I was in almost 2 weeks ago.

The upside is at least your car is fixable. 🙂

Holy crap! That's an amazing looking bodyshop. As far as getting the whole car painted, several thousand if you want it done right. Not really worth it unless you're doing a restoration.

That's a bodyshop? It's so clean you could eat off the floor... :Q Good luck with the car... 😀

"...my 86 parisienne finally bit the dust..."

Why not replace it with a nice Cadillac? Put a rebuilt 350ci in there and be happy for another 200K!

"The upside is at least your car is fixable."

Sorry to hear about your car, BDawg. I hope it's resolved to your satisfaction. I don't consider this an upside, now. I had my heart set on replacing it with a '95 Cartier or similar.

I've really got to get that color changed. Since they have to paint the whole front anyway, I figured it wouldn't be too much more effort to do the rest. It would save them trying to match colors, too. I think that "Portofino Blue" is close enough to the Amethyst color, that I could tell them to skip painting the door jams and underside of the trunk deck. That should shave some bucks. I'm thinking $500.00 would be fair, and it's more than I can really afford anyway!

Damn, that really sucks.

It kinda sucks that they're going to fix it in a way. I mean... When something like that happens to a car, you never know if it's going to be the same again. Hopefully it is, but if it isn't.. It's going to be a real pain in the ass to deal with.

By the way, Briggs & Stratton has some new 3 cylinder engines.

You could always replace your car with a dunebuggy. :Q 😉 😀

It would be a Father/Son project... yeah, that's it.

$2,700.00 for a 3 cylinder! I can get a rebuilt Chevy 350ci long block for $800.00!

I ain't worried about the structural aspect of the car when it's done. I'm more disappointed that I couldn't upgrade instead. Oh well, at least if I can change the color, that would be a serious upgrade to me, right there.

...just got off the phone with the body man. He says they were left with a $1,500.00 cushion in case of surprises after they pull it apart, which they'll be doing today. He's working numbers for me right now for the extra cost to paint it all. Fingers crossed...

Update: Holy crap! He wants $3,500 more to paint it all! That would be removing moldings, opera windows, etc. I guess they only do quality work there, so they couldn't just shoot it on any old way... DAMN!

Damn it, I'm pissed! These screw offs said it would be done last Thursday. Then they said, no, middle of this week. Yesterday he called and said Friday, more likely Monday! :|

On the way to pick my wife up from work, I stopped in. Gal asked who I'd like to speak with, which I told her. She asked if I was there to pick up or drop off? I said, neither, just here to bitch. She said, "Ooh, that's not good..." :Q

The manager came out and I asked basically, WTF? I told him that I'd informed his underling that I didn't have a rental car now, since I'd used up my thirty days, and he assured me they would try to expedite the repairs. Yeah, it looks like it! I asked if they had squeezed 10 or 15 cars in ahead of mine, or what? I also mentioned how they didn't waste a second getting the damn thing pulled apart, so that I was committed to leaving it there!

He gave me a list off the top of his head of all the extra parts and labor it had required. It was a pretty long list, and I was impressed by how up he was on all the specific work being done to it. They have a BUNCH of vehicles being worked on there. He didn't particularly apologize, but said they're doing everything they can to move it along. He is now WELL aware of how I feel about the situation, so if he doesn't want another ear full, with customers around, he'll get it done by Monday... HE BETTER! :disgust:

my car was smashed after yours and extensively damaged(unibody tweaked, similar front end damage) and i got it back 2 weeks ago.
