The yellow bar in between is maybe too much but the Report this to a Moderator isn't wasting space, it would be there anyway because of the Reply, Quote, etc. Buttons.

Previously the Reply, Quote etc buttons were in the box where the message text were, as was the Online Staus, PM etc buttons at the top of the post. Both of those in bars, plus the gap between posts adds a couple of lines for EACH post which is made in a thread.

Confused

I don't even remember how the old forums were  Getting rid of the Yellow-Bar would be the best thing IMO

Go take a look at Chubby Wallet forums, they're still running the older version of FT, you'll see what I mean.

Confused

Ah yeah. It was somehow IN the post. Anyway, I don't have a problem with that "wasted" space, the yellow bar is unnecessary though.

I don't know why they updated them. They worked fine before. Now they are just different, minus some features. What was the point?

See my previous post about the stone-age. Why not do something new? I'm sure the bugs will be fixed soon.

if something new is broken there's a very good reason 'why not'. stone age nothing, if someone created a new food that killed 1 out of 3 people that ate it would you be whining (becase basically you are whining about the whiners when it comes down to it) about people not wanting to try the new food and telling them to stop living in the stone age? actually, YOU probably would, but more sensible people wouldn't.

Gotta agree with ndee.

This forum is absolutely free. Can you post? Yes? Then it's not broken.

If you can't post, then you can bitch, oh wait, no you can't ;) :p.

They actually just had to test the forum a little bit more. What don't you like except the bugs? I think developing new stuff is a good thing.

btw, if you guys would read FI instead of OT, you would see that Zuni is really working on it and responding to the threads.

Except that they removed features that people liked.

Post from Jason Clark in FI:
Guys, have a bit of patience, two guys on a sunday afternoon moved 12 million rows from one db to another and upgraded enterprise software to a new version and changed application servers... we're doing the best job we can. Patience please.

I think they didn't do that on purpose. They will fix that.

So you're annoyed at the fact that everyone is pointing out bugs that need to be fixed? What would you like us to do, STFU and not say anything and have Zuni think everyone is A-OK?

No, but how many threads are there in OT that are like "*cry cry* I don't like the new forum/design/emoticons/blabla"? First of all, that should be in FI cuz I don't think that Zuni will take a look in EVERY forum if there is a new message about a bug. Second, all are just acting like crybabies. That's all.

It's their opinion - as an open forum, they have a right to voice their opinions. You mentioned not the bugs but the aesthetic values of the forums which people are whining about. Most of the bugs everyone is complaining about is being addressed in FI anyway. Yes it is free and yes, Zuni busts his ass. I was there for the beta test back in November and found a few bugs myself which I kindly pointed out. But on a forum this large with 75,000+ users, you're bound to have people whine and complain about the things they don't like. You can't tell me there is absolutely NOTHING you dislike about the new forums.

as I said, the yellow bar is too much but I wouldn't start a thread over that. In general, the Forum looks "cleaner" to me. And I don't mind the Report this post to a moderator link either.

OMG...this is Cold Fusion. I could code a forum like this from scratch with Notepad in two days. Should take them a few minutes to troubleshoot the bugs here.

I never saw any announcements about updating the forum software, so be gentle.

1. When was it announced that the forum was changing?

2. Why is a "production grade" environment using beta software?

3. Is there another anandtech forum still using the old firmware that everyone else is still using?

4. What was wrong with the old forum? it worked, was fast, and .. well, it worked!

I'm not happy with all the bugs I'm experiencing. Now for some reason after I post it asks me to retry or cancel. I dont' know why. Otherwise it is fine.

Man, I didn't login all weekend and them BAM! I was thinking to myself, "Did I click the right bookmark?".

It'll definitely take some getting used to.
