I would save +$300/6 months by switching to Geico

I was with them for about 3 years while insuring a 15 year old truck for the bare minimum required. Geico was the least expensive when I started out with them (like $125/6 months) but every 6 months it would go up $10-$15 (8-10%). I was in college and trying to save money, so it was a lot to me!

I'd never had insurance that went up every 6 months, and I'd call them and hear the excuses and they'd come up with some way to reduce my rate by $5-$10. After three years I was sick of it and switched.

I've never had to make a claim with any insurance, so I don't know anything about that.

Get a quote from Progressive too, if you haven't already.

Geico was significantly more expensive in my case.

The reason why their rates are so low is because they usually only take the customers with low/no accident history.

Once you get into an accident, they'll turn their backs

Checked with Progressive or Nationwide? Nobody else comes close to the price that I pay Nationwide for full insurance... (by almost double)

I had the same experience just this month. Last year, I checked about 6 major rpoviders, including Progressive and Geico, and there wasn't much difference so I stuck with Liberty Mutual.

This year, I checked again and this time all the companies I checked were close, except this time Geico was about 1/2 the cost of the other companies.

btw, I'm 50 as of this year, with a clean driving record.

Every company is different, if you have a clean record/no points everyone will want to insure you and have pretty competitive rates.

Here is where the big difference in company?s rates is, IF YOU HAVE ACTIVITY. For example get a quote from GEICO that shows you with no points, then say you have 1 accident were there was bodily injury and it was your fault.

Do this with a couple companies. You will see each company handles points differently.

Gecko is all web based so you never get to see your agent, so if you are comfortable with that then OK

Lot's of older people don't like it cause they are used to dealing with humans and talking to someone face to face.

Mercury does have better rates than Geico, but I don?t think they are in your state yet.

Mercury is also a lot more specific on what they want to know, they save money this way be controlling the risk, you, more. Then they pass the savings onto their policy holders, you again.

EDIT: hey Tom enjoy your low rates while you have them eventually they start going up again because of you age 🙁 but you still have I think 15 years.

I have Geico insurance. I called the other day to see what I was going to be renewing at. The lady quoted me a price. Then she said, I see that you inquired about a good student program. I acknowledged that I had. She said, well, if you *just* send me a copy of your unofficial transcript, I could get that going for you and I will retroactively apply it for the past three months.

I did so.

Also, when I had an unreliable car, it broke down twice. Both times, they were really helpful, got my service really quickly, and practically apologized to me for owning a POS car.

BEST customer service I have ever had.

Who do you have for insurance now? Make sure you are also comparing apples to apples. FYI Geico gave my father a quote once and said all the coverage were the same at the price quoted and then he found out there was a PIP deductible (no fault in Florida) and other undesirable things.

Here the secret to insurance companies... Over a 10 year span most companies with the same driver... rates will be roughly equal. Based on modeling & propensity... companies can buy a share of the market they want.

You can go with Geico for auto, State Farm for home, Bank of America for banking, Northwesestern for life, etc.....

Make your life easy & get a competetive rate.... go see a good State Farm agent that does everything from auto, home, life, health, business, retirement planning, and banking. Makes life simple and State Farm is the ONLY company to wind JD Powers award for customer service for claims.
