I would rather have a computer that looks nice on my desk than one that's 25% faster.

that's why i tend to buy expensive cases i guess.

i own 2 Lian Li cases, one i paid $200.00 for 5 yrs ago. the other i paid $250.00 2 yrs ago(http://www.lian-li.com/Product/Chassis/S_V_S_PC-V2000.htm).

i also own an ebot case. http://www.foxconnchannel.com/products_barebone.cfm?pName=Ebot

apples are worth the extra money and it's not even that much more. the Mac Mini for eg. what would a comparable PC case cost? could you build a comparable PC with a case of that quality for significantly less? i doubt it.

I once thought I didn't care what my computer looked like or sounded like...

Then I made the smart choice of buying one of the new Thermaltake Orbs with a 7200rpm fan...

No thank you. I will now gladly sacrafice performance for quiet components.

Plus I really don't play many games at all, so no big worries there.

That's what I think too. Yeah, they look nicer. I still greatly prefer CRT performance though.

All other things being equal (UI, etc), I'd rather, say, have a PC with no wires (maybe just a power cable for the whole system, that'd be awesome) or a smaller tower or nicer monitor than some extra speed.

I'm sitting here looking at the task manager, and as I'm typing, the highest usage I've seen is 2%. I don't think I need much more speed.
Mac it is for you, then.

Beat me to it. Mac Mini FTW.

BUT THEY'RE SO SLOOOOOWWWWWW.. I'd pick a PII 450MHZ system with windows XP and 384MB of ram ANYDAY over a mac mini with 512MB ram... They're painfully slow....

Laptop maybe?

Some of the DTRs are pretty powerful nowadays. Plus, you just might be able to carry it away from a power source for a few minutes.

Uh, a Core Duo is nothing to call slow. No need for fanboyism in this thread.

If you're willing to use an Apple, then the iMac is perfect. When I used to have one, I had just one power cable coming out of the system. Internet was built-in wireless, keyboard/mouse was built-in Bluetooth, and they have built-in speakers. It was a REALLY nice desktop setup.

that is a horrible comparison. making irrational statements like this only take away from whatever credibility people might be giving you for an argument.

Well, I used a cardboard box, velcro and hot glue as a case for two years. Had (at the time) screaming Thunderbird in it :p

My case looks nice and sits on my floor. Everything else is on my desk but the cords don't look bad. I think having power and good style are both possible for sure. And I'd never want something like a desktop-replacement laptop or an iMac, as nice as they may be, just because I like having individual components for everything. Integration FTL.

But you don't understand the Mango, he's a troll and by definition makes irrational statements and lacks any sort of credibility.

I'm seriously contemplating an Imac w/ the 20" flat panel as my next PC with the advent of BootCamp.

I don't really game much any more. I'd love the ability to dual boot in a sleek and streamlined package.
