Unless you want to play DVD's from a PC avsforum.com is probably a better place to look for specific info about a good region uncoded dvd player or any home AV equipment. I've had bad luck with apex units working right and wouldn't recommend one to anybody

The Philips 642 DVD/Divx player can be made region free in a snap and can play Divx/Xvid/MP3 files as well. I love mine and they can be had for $60-65.

I just use a cheap ass mintek and cyberhome one. Only 30 bucks but gets the job done.
