I'm not super-familiar with the jacks on the Extigy, but if it has RCA-outs (same kind as on the back of a receiver) you can use it with any reciever that has AUX jacks on the back. Try the paper for used stuff or maybe check around town for a refurb outlet. I picked up a decent Pioneer 5:1 amp/reciever for $120 at the outlet here in Atlanta.

I bought a $25 receiver at a garage sale and hooked it up to my SB Live with a converter cable.

1\8th headphone connection on one end and red\white RCA connection on the other end.

Hooked it up to AUX input and it works great.

How would you get rear speaker support if you did this? This does seem like a pretty good idea to me because you could get some nice, big speakers and a receiver for less than what a set of Klipschs would cost.

I got a broken Harman-Kardon AVR90 (Prologic) for free. It just needed a a fuse replaced. Works great.
You should be able to get a number of prologic (but not Dolby Digital or DTS) receivers for under $100 on Ebay or elsewhere. I just run the main output from the Live to the Aux-In on the receiver, enable "LiveSurround" et voila! Prologic it is.
I don't think DTS/DD works b/c Creative still won't pass the signal through to the receiver.
