I would like to congratulate the Bush administration....

I was sitting in my Engineering class today and the teacher was explaining how we shouldn't go to game sites (It's done with Auto CAD so we have computers) because they were giving viruses to the computers. Then you had the usual 2-3 responses of "I know how to write a virus" ( ) and the discussion soon changed to who writes viruses. So the teacher makes a comment about how there troves of "Cyber Terrorists" who sit at computers all day in "Afghanistan" writing viruses and "hacking" into "your" computer to steal your files and "mess up your programs".

Edit:  <- - 4 Karl Rove

My professor told us to use Lycos to search the web as Google is used by hackers for some serious criminal activity.
And I made a thread about that. Make a search.

Strangle him/her...

I've heard that you can dispell the hackers by wearing tinfoil haits... I could be wrong though.

So it's the Bush administrations fault that your teacher is an idiot?

good game propoganda in this country. Not that its anything out of the ordinary. Everytime someone from afghanistan sends out a virus, the "terror alert" color goes up. this makes baby jesus cry

there's an old guy with dementia at my parent's church who thinks the hackers are always after him. he unplugs his computer at night so they won't get him.

That's like everyone blaming anything wrong with their computer on "I think it has a virus or something."

Spyware? A virus or something.
Internet connections wrong? A virus or something.
Hardware component losing power? A virus or something.

Just a pet peeve. Hacking and viruses are much less common than people make them out to be.

Orange Alert! Something bad may happen this month but we have no details! Go buy duct tape!

Apparently you've been ignoring this administration's use of terrorist boogeymen to keep the populace and congress in line. Not that Gore wouldn't have done much the same.

Of course not, but it is their fault for spreading this kind of propoganda that is likely to be swallowed by the common homo erectus computerus dipshito.

Well there is some truth to that.

Cyber terror is a huge concern and we've been lucky. And quite frankly the current administration isn't giving it the attention it should.

But to blame bush for activities in afghanistan is just assine.

We geeks can hold our own. IT departments, on the other hand... I fear for their pathetic lives.

So, from this thread, I gather that it's Bush's fault that some teachers are stupid as hell, and it's Bush's fault that there is a terrorism alert system in place because people complained that the public wasn't enough aware of possible threat potential but now that they are made aware of it they complain that it's stupid and part of some conspiracy.

Ok, I r teh dumberer now.
