I work for a large engineering group. About twice per year, some idiot puts the distribution list that sends an email to everyone on the TO or CC line. Every single time, someone replies "take me off the distribution list" or something to that effect.

That creates a series of people replying to all saying the same damn thing. Then it turns into idiots replying to all and saying, "Please stop replying to all as it includes a distro list". Around and around we go. This latest one started about 9am this morning and is still going with about an email every 20 minutes or so.

I would blame the IT department for allowing people to send to a distribution list like that but unfortunately there are reasons people need to use it. Therefore I have to deal with the idiots that don't know how to put a distribution list on the BCC line and the idiots that reply to all.

I have been here for about 8 years and I see this happen at least twice a year. Bunch of retards I tell ya.....

I'm in a building of 200 people and the same thing happens a couple of times a year.
"Don't know why this was sent to me," reply to all. Awesome.

When I worked at Bank of America, we had some idiot do this on one of the major IT distribution lists. It was fucking terrible (and in hindsight, a sign of how stupid the company is in general) how many people REPLY ALL'd asking to be removed. That was the first 50 or so emails. Then the next 50 were people saying DON'T REPLY ALL.

It got so bad that our CIO replied in all caps to stop. In total, there was probably 200 junk mails generated by stupidity.

There is no reason that so many people should have permission to use the giant distribution lists.

We used to have the same issue but our IT group cracked down on it. Not sure what they did exactly but it's been about 3 years since those chains showed up.

oh the best one was when someone send a message to everyone calling out whoever was tailgating them in the morning. It broke into two groups and a lot of yelling back and forth. It was classic.

If you are going to use the word "least", u don't need to give a range then. Just say "at least 20 complete idiots".

Some sales rep at T-Mobile once spammed the entire 30k company with a "forward and you'll get good luck" email and it wound up bringing the enterprise email down, what with the "remove me", "don't ask to be removed" and the dumbasses actually forwarding the spam to other people. The rep got fired. :)

We had this one issue where this guy thought he was ever-so-clever in writing this Christmas based song and changing the lyrics to make it related to our company.

This dude sent it to probably 4-5k people including the corporate team and stores. I guess he just thought it was that good.

We must have some of the smarter people though? I don't remember any reply-all except for one.

In Active Directory, you just specify the accounts that can actually send an email to the distribution list. That's how it's setup at my current company. Only 3-4 people can send to the company wide list.

irony not found.

Also, his email being forwarded amongst other employees was probably not the reason it crashed. My guess is that the admin was under pressure to stop the emails from being circulated. He probably was "under the hood."

How is it not ironic? He passed around the supposed "good luck" e-mail, which in turn back fired?

Not being a smartass; I sometimes refer back to this to make sure I've got my definition of irony correct. :)

There should be some way for IT Admin to remove the "Reply All" option from user's email client.

That's hilarious!

Everyone at my work can send to the whole building, and we do it frequently. We've never had someone asked to be "removed from the list," so I think you have a very effective troll working for your company.
