I won't bitch about the electric bill....

for at least the next 6 months. Just had electricity restore after about 40 hours. It was damn cold last night only burning wood in a piss poor fireplace. So happy to have heat, light and AT again! 😀

Damn ice and tree everywhere here (Lexington, KY). It's a mess.

It was damn close, I was on campus (boyd hall) at that time (Jan-Feb 2003) and it was incredibly dangerous, and they did come by and cut down parts of several trees. I know lexington was a mess, but didn't know it was that bad. Up in Cincinnati, we have several inches of ice, but luckily our power has stayed on.

Damn Bradford pear trees grow and thicken up quickly. Sadly, they break even more quickly. I wish the damn things would go ahead and completely hit the ground (can't get the city to condemn them so I can cut them yet - but they might now).

My electric bill went through the roof after I installed the used electric chair I bought off craigslist. After about 13 executions, I simply could not afford the bill any longer. 🙁

Here's a tip. Execute as many people you want and then, right before the bill is due, try the chair yourself. I've heard that the power company drops the bill recently deceased people. Give it a try...might just work for you. 😉

Say hello to my little friend

Have you ever run it for an extended period of time? Say, a few days? How was your gas bill?

Looks pretty slick!

The house was finished being built and we moved in back in October.

It has been on for short periods of time late last fall due to thunderstorms. It was just on from 4:36am Tuesday morning until just after noon Tuesday due to an ice storm. Have to see what that does on the next bill.

Here's a pic just after they put the control panel in the garage.

My parents live in a rural, wooded area that loses power relatively frequently and isn't a high priority for the electric company because of the population density. And they have a well, so no electricity = no water. No shower, no flushing the toilet. One time when we lost power for more than a day we used the water that had collected on the swimming pool cover to fill the toilet tank... after that my dad started filling the bath tub with water before big storms.

I don't think we ever lost heat though... we had an oil furnace. Not sure how it handled ignition.

I loved living in the woods, but I appreciate living closer to civilization now. Rarely lose power, and never for extended time periods. City water, no septic tank, gas heat/stove/dryer.

After being out for 24 hours and the house temperature dropping to 48 (some parts, the part with the fireplace was in the low/mid 50's), I bought a kerosene heater yesterday morning (heard on battery powered AM radio that Home Depot received a shipment of generators and heaters). It did a wonderful job of bringing up the heat in a few rooms to the mid 60's while keeping the house from dropping (even rose). I'll keep it with kerosine ready to go and start looking for a generator in the off season (they will be cheaper during the summer sales/clearances or even pick up one from those that bought them today as they sell them off).

I'm in Lexington, too!
Just got our power back last night around 9:00 PM.
Been out since around Noon Wednesday.

Our power never went out, you could have stayed in my garage if you promised not to touch anything.

Bradford pears are shitty trees.

Quit bragging guys! My power is still out in northern Madison county, and I honestly don't see any hope of it coming back on anytime soon. Everything north of Exit 90 is still dark, and I'm not even sure the KU guys have stepped foot in my subdivision. I have a friend in downtown Richmond who still doesn't have power, and another friend who lives out towards Boonesborough who doesn't have power.

I stopped by the house this morning to check on things and make sure my water pipes were still in good shape, and it was a crisp 32 degrees in my house. 😀

Bradford pears are shitty trees to have next to powelines or your house.

Yes.

I won't bitch about the electric bill....
...because the electric company did what it was SUPPOSED to do and is shouldn't have happened in the first place? You're easy to please 🙂

<-- loves having undergound power.

When the last hurricane came through here we lost power for 4 1/2 days. It was early fall and quite plesant with the 85f temp with 99% hunidity. The only solace in this is we have gas heat/water so we could take multiple showers during the day to peel off the latest sweet layer.

Since it's going to be down to 12 degrees tonight, looks like I'm getting a kerosene heater and spending the night in a cold, dark house by myself. I hear that kerosene heaters in my town are like gold at this point, but luckily I have a friend who works at Lowes and can hook me up 🙂.

After we lost power for 2 weeks from an ice storm when I was a kid my mom said she would never complain about the electric bill again.

My power lines are also burried, but at some point, the feeder lines are on a poll. Not sure what you expect them to do to prevent things like this from happening. I guess they could prune the trees a tad better, but they cannot control every tree...well, I guess they could raise your rate, hire more people and check and prune all trees on a continual basis...good for the economy too! 😀

Note, I also placed a time limit of 6 months on the lack of bitching...so I'm covered...now as for the gas bill, that's another story. It's too fucking high, period! :Q (really need a new furnace).
