I wonder what Bali did to deserve the recent terrorist attack.

Was it their foriegn policy? Obviously they deserved it as these kinds of things don't "just happen".

So, anyone have an idea what the root causes that led to this disaster are?

It wasn't Bali itself that was really targeted. It was the high concentration of foreigners (primarily westerners) in that club area.

Edit:typo

That's the dumbest fvcking thing I've ever read on this forum.
It's called sarcasm. Stick around a while and you'll be able to pick it out.

Errr... after reading a couple of Corn's other posts, I see that it probably is.

I'm still hoping they'll come up with a sarcasm smiley.

i guess we can just assume then that terrorism is very random and really, there is no reason behind it except that people like to blow stuff up.

I've seen people use the [/S] tag...or to a lesser extent FMTPO

For example:
Iraq's great with human rights [/S]
Boston's a great town...FMTPO

Ah, so it was an attack against the godless infidels then, eh?

Well, IMHO this is a well thought out attack by some clearly desperate freedom fighters. Blow the single largest source of income to your area to bits. Excellent plan!!!! They tread the path to paradise.

Yes I do, but it does not make a difference now does it? I mean we have to go and attack terrorism wherever it is, by any means. If we get that Saddam guy that will put the fear of Allah into them and no one will ever be hurt again. We here are right and that is all that matters. Nuke the effers. Reason dont matter. The time has come not to think and understand, but to act and the greater the destruction we cause the better.

That's the dumbest fvcking thing I've ever read on this forum.

But sward666, a significant number of our culturally and morally superior european friends have been insisting that the terrorist attacks against the US were the result of some wrong we had committed and that terrorists only act out in desperation. We brought it on ourselves, they say. I was just trying to understand why the people of Bali deserved to be blown to hell.

Three out of four Muslim terrorists agree!!!!!

Ok, I'll stop for the moment. Bali did just what the US did to deserve 9/11, and that is nothing, at least in a material sense. The question is what to do as a practical solution. What makes things better and what makes things worse? I do not understand all the worlds political nuances to provide a formula that says in case of x do y. Is there an historic opression of muslims there? Why they were attacked is not nearly as clear as why we were to me. they may have been the innocent caught in a struggle between the West and Islam. I don't know, and I dont know who to shoot if I did. BTW, has Al-Queda claimed responsibility for this, or is there evidence to that effect.?

I think they did some very un-Islamic things (having bars, prostitutes, nude beaches, etc) in a predominantly Islamic country. And the majority of the island is Hindu from what I hear. As good as a reason as any to blow them up according to Muslim law.

Yeah, I know. I thought you were one of them.

As to the question, like someone already said, it's not the people of Bali they were after apparently, but the foreign tourists. Unfortunately, my brother and his family are among those tourists. They stayed in Kuta for four days a couple of weeks ago, bounced around Bali for a little while, and arrived in Ubud (twelve or so miles from Kuta) to stay for a few weeks on Friday night. He chose Bali specifically because it supposed to be relatively safe.

Their trip to paradise just got a sudden jolt of reality (in his words).

I don't think I'll ever have enough hatred, conviction, fear, ingorance, and intolerance to understand why nearly all religious based terrorist attacks happen.

That says a lot about you, and that is a good thing :) But to try to understand why, lets say car accidents happen, does not mean that you have to cause one. People are motivated to do things we cannot understand and indeed do not want to at the most intimate level. Still, one has to try to learn if one expects to be able to effectively improve matters.

Yikes that's scary, glad they are safe.

Yes, now you know. You are just as nuts as the terrorists. Insanity is doing the same thing over and over expecting different results. "We have met the enemy and they are us." The enemy is the disease of disguised self hate, the hate we project outward to create the other, the disguesting one, the enemy. Until we remember who we are, we will continue to dance of 'I am better' round the wheel of Karma. There is only one Great War and it is with the self, the false self we have become and worship. To win that war, our idol must die. We are the people of the Golden Calf. You are the world because every thing you see, its meaning, is the creation of your own mind. "Oh my beloved, wherever I look it appears to be Thou."

Moonbeam, you really need some original material. That self-hate mantra is getting really old and overused. I guess when the only tool you have is a hammer, everything starts looking like a nail, huh?
