This is my last piece of advice. Rant all you want in private. You take it public with the attitude of "I'm in the right. She is wrong," and you'll be labeled as a troublemaker and someone who cannot work well with others.

Like the others said, this is really about ethics. What you did is basically unethical. IF you really want those scholarships then divorce yourself from club/student activities boards for a year and reapply on the next go aound. Since you are young, we can excuse your behaviour as youthful exasperation. But as you get older, you'll need the wisdom to figure out when to fight or not. Here is not your fight. Let it go,

Good comments (as usual at ATOT, some were not exactly tactful, but at least insightful).

This is a case of conflict of interest. Conflict of interest doesn't mean that you willfully rigged the process - it doesn't even mean that you did anything wrong at all. It simply means that you were in a situation where the interests of your role as Director of the group conflicted with the interests of your role as a scholarship applicant. The reason that people do not like these situations is they very often result in an unfair process. Sometimes it is deliberate unfairness (like influencing the committee to give you the scholarship), and other times it is unintentional but still unfair (like a committee who knows and likes you through your association with the club, voting to give you the scholarship because of your advantageous relationship).

In my view, this is a lose-lose situation for you. Even if you were to pressure the Dean to give up the $350, you still have publicly shown a conflict of interest and your reputation (as well as the club's) will be affected. Whether that is worth $350 is up to you.

wow! at first i was thinking you should get the check then after reading the latter post you did i changed my mind.

"No, it isn't about conflict of interest. She's out "to get" me and she will stop at nothing, including getting her friends up top to join in a ploy, to get an honest student, me."

THis is what really did it. you need to grow up! life is NOT fair! you made a mistake and she is doing the rifht thing. But take it to the papers. The only person that will get hurt is YOU! go ahead you deserve it.

I'm very sorry, friend, but you're absolutely in a conflict of interest. Your actions, whether intentionally unethical or not, are, I'm afraid, unethical. Your Dean, no matter how much you dislike her, is right.

I suggest you find away of backing out of this and saving face.
