oh wow that's awesome!!! So all you gotta do is go to the recruiter office, get sent to Iraq for 3 and a half years and come back home without an arm and a leg and you enjoy a great popcorn popper? I'd so do it!

I'm tempted to try to record the message and make an mp3 to save on here.... :p I might do it tonight if the message doesn't get deleted. :D

How did you sign up for the popper? I would like to try. Since I have been medically disqualified from military service from 1991, I would gladly walk in and claim my popper.

That means it doesn't exist :p

It means they bought some bulk air poppers for $10 each and slapped a go army bumper sticker on them.

:)

I'm all for a volunteer army, it beats the alternative, but shady recruiters need to be shut down. They basically prey on the desperate or weak-willed, or so it seems.

I didn't. I don't even know how they got my number....I didn't have a phone for months and then got VOIP. Of course, I've been using that number for credit card references, etc... but I never advertised it. :p

They are still going after the low hanging fruit, and apparently it now only takes a popcorn popper to real them in.

With that logic they should be offering a "GO ARMY!" bug zapper....or fiber optic lamp.

There were some protesters outside the recruitment center (has all of them cept coast guard in one convenient building smack in the middle of a shopping center) a few days ago, with signs like "LEAVE OUR KIDS ALONE" and "STAY OUT OF OUR SCHOOLS".

Careful, join the army these days and when you're done you'll be diving under the couch when the popcorn starts popping.

i was at a recruiting station and the one was looking through their system to find someone to call... you'd be surprised how detailed it is... age, proximity to school.. oh and phone number.. a VOIP number is still a phone number, just through a different system.. I bet the military can get ahold of all the voip numbers.

see, thats all fine and dandy that they wanna protect their kids from war.. but what they dont understand is, the military doesn't really have any other choice if you dont want another draft. the only way they can get through to kids is to basically harass them until they break and just talk to them, hearing them out. this is when they can work their magic.
see, the problem is, and what the Army is particular is trying to correct, is how misinformed today's youth is about the military, specifically the Army. and without them reaching out with a desperate hand, these kids will never learn that it just might be okay for them. sadly, some recruiters are bad while others are good. some will attempt to brainwash a kid, others just want to lead the kid to a good path but ultimately let the kid decide if he wants to keep going or change direction.
one of the local army recruiters here, I have talked to many a time, a few times at school, he came to my house once, and one or twice in the recruiting station. he at first tried to brainwash me into wanting to enlist, but then kind of agreed that ROTC would be a better match for what I really want to accomplish, and thats guaranteed schooling. going enlisted and then OCS isn't a guarantee you can get schooling. its not that they wont provide money for schooling, its the time. its like having a full time job and then doing night classes, not everybody can manage a task like that, not to mention it kind of leaves no time for family, which being in the military you're gonna want as much time with your family as possible.

My immediate response was a bit too trollish for me...

If a popcorn popper is what tips the balance between you and Iraq, you either like popcorn a bit too much or things were really, really close.

I could use a can opener or something to steam my veggies in.
