I won a Powmax 400w PSU at a LAN party. I was planning on putting it in my new canterwood system, but have heard mixed reviews on Powmax. Will this thing be safe to at least try?

i wouldnt risk cheap hardware let alone a canterwood with a shady power supply. the way i see it is if your gonna invest $ in hardware , then you might as well invest a few extra bucks on the PSU. i'm not saying u should necesarily buy an expensive @ss antec or enermax, you can go with a 400W allied, sprakle, or fortron for about $40 and get an excellent PSU

For the record, my powmax went and took my mobo with it. Sell it in the FS/FT forums, and since no one will probably buy it, egay it!

Powmax is bad news. If you can afford a Canterwood, you can afford a quality $60 power supply to go with it.

Powmax PSU

I'd buy it.

I am guessing it would easily power my 800 EB!

I agree, cant go wrong with one of those... Not the quietest (at 32Db) but very solid and it is hard to hear in my almost silent system.

Leadman PSUs used to be one of the better lines- now they appear to be bottom feeders with the Powmax brand.
. If you can find one with the Leadman brand, it might be better. If I had a high $$$ system, I'd be looking at a better PSU.
. Heck, I've got a low $$$ system and even it was given a Sparkle PSU...

get a channelwell tech. that is Antec's OEM, and they are a hell of a lot cheaper than branded Antec's.

SOME of the powmax psu's are built by fortron (very good psu's)

u can tell if it's by fortron if the model number starts with FSP

BJC be glad you didn't buy this thing. I figured I would try it, and it seemed like it was working fine, but I couldn't get the Keyboard to work, I really don't know why the keyboard wouldn't work. But after several restarts thePSU just stopped working. I Put a Antec 350 in it and it is working fine so far, Keyboard even works.

My Powermax is made by Leadman. Was AMD approved. Has been used on three different AMD systems without a hiccup for almost three years.

UPDATE

Even though I won this thing at a LAN party Powmax RMA'd it. They just sent me a brand new one. I have to give cheers to them, they take care of their customers.

I have a alluminum POWMAN 500w serving my system past 2 years no problems.

Did not even hear a lot of people here where having problems with it.
