I witnessed a massacre today

I'm walking back from class and into my apartment complex, and a UPS truck is backed up to an unloading area. The dude is literally CHUCKING boxes out the back of the truck, with them all landing in a pile on the sidewalk. I walked past with an obvious sneer on my face, and glanced down at the pile. A Newegg box. 🙁

i had 3 friends that used to work for UPS. they always told me not to use them for shipping. one was a dispatcher, the other two were drivers. they would always tell me stories about boxball they played, and particularly loud breakables they came across. used to piss me off.

I'd get the truck number and report him. That could be someone's hard drive destroyed on fault of UPS.

I was told the same by my friend. He said it's better to not use FRAGILE markings on boxes and to package shit REALLLLY GOOD.

I myself have never received a damaged UPS box. I have however gotten FedEx boxes with obvious dents in them and fucked up corners

Be interesting to see how much this costs companies like NewEgg in bogus returns. Item leaves dispatch in working condition, arrives DOA. You have to imagine this happens quite a lot.

I've had the opposite. My UPS boxes (commercial or personal) are routinely jacked up. Often late as well, usually due to them being shipped to the wrong location.
On the other hand I've never had any serious problems with FedEx, certainly never had damaged goods.

FedEx threw my brothers hard drive over the fence to our back yard as he was walking out to meet the delivery man.

I've never seen him yell so loud.

thats why i never get things shipped to my house. at work, we rarely have any damaged shipping, not sure why. when things do get chingered up, it does happen sometimes, they are quick to get shit resolved. we made ups pay for a $12k gear section that got to us damaged. they put a fork almost thru one panel, we argued that the bus inside was damaged, as well as the circuitry compromised. they paid for the new gear.

A UPS guy once tossed a box on my doorstep upon delivery, right as I was opening the door. I have him a look of disbelief, then he had sort of an "oh shit" look on his face and walked away.

I don't think I've ever received anything damaged from ups, although sometimes I get pretty beat up boxes. I imagine a properly packed item can take any impact that doesn't literally collapse the box it's in. The guys are busy. I don't blame them for not treating every one of the bazillion boxes they transport like it contains a priceless faberge egg packed in nitroglycerin. Still, I'd be pretty pissed off if something I ordered did come in damaged.

this is why you use USPS ... for some reason USPS actually treats packages with care... guess the workers get better pay or something.

Someone's been reading a lot of the "we care" inserts lately that come with damaged goods. 😛

I can top that. I got a UPS package that was pretty much completely destroyed. The cardboard was about 75% gone and the innards were held together with the special red tape instructing the owner to check contents while the driver waits. The driver got halfway up my driveway, threw the package at my door and ran back to his truck. I got his truck number and reported his ass. I don't know if he got fired, but I watch UPS trucks in my neighborhood and have not seen him since.

Not denying your friends' stories, but I probably have over 100 packages per year delivered to my house. Most come from UPS. None have ever arrived damaged.
