I wish someone would explain this to me...

Ok, here's the scenario:

- I had a 120 GB WDC 2MB cache and recently bought another one, this time 8MB
- Set them up in a RAID-1 (have an Abit AT7 Mobo) and mirrored over to 8MB, then retired the 2MB as a backup drive. 2 partitions, C: for system and D: for data
- This weekend I wanted to mirror again, resetting the system partition to the state of the previous backup
- Started the machine as usual with the 8MB drive as primary master and the 2MB on the RAID controller (as a single standard drive, not in any array) to make sure the backup data was still there (as it was)
- !!! For some reason, the data partition on the 2MB drive showed up before the system on the alphabet (as H: and I:, since the other disk took up C: and D: )
- Not suspecting anything, I synchronized the data partitions and then mirrored from backup drive in order to restore the system partition back to the state from the last backup
- Now the data partition is set as active (seeing through Partition Magic 6.0) and system partition shows up as D: (seeing through recovery console in WinXP installation). When I start up it only displays WinXP logo without any accounts to log on with, presumably because the system is supposed to reside on C:. Probably for the same reason, it won't allow me to log on through recovery console either.

What could have happened? I'm pretty sure both the data and system partition are unharmed, they just appear to have switched positions somehow.
