I will not be a hovering mother!

My son is going out this evening, he will take 2 buses and a train ride to his first meeting in an anime/manga lovers club. He'll also most likely stop in Harvard square for a bite to eat.

Not unusual, not rare, except for the fact that my son is 22 and autistic. He's armed with a brand new cell phone, so he can call when he arrives and when he's headed home and enough money for food, club donation and his bus fares.

I will not be a hovering anxious mother.. it's just another social event right?

Just with lots of nerds 😎!

Anime/manga is quite popular here and apparently there are a large number of young women who are members this is a big group,35 people. 13-14 women.

rotflol, He just asked for advice concerning clothing and cologne...hehehe, he remembered there will be women there

I guess it depends on how well he can function on his own. You're letting him do it, and you seem like the kind of person who makes rational, thoughtful decisions. How does your son feel about this?

Edit:

Well, I think we know how he feels about it 😀

Maybe he'll find himself a lady friend...

dont kid yourself, he's really going to a furry party.

jk.

I understand you worrying more since your son's autistic, but you have to let him start being independent at some point.

Don't worry. He'll be fine. He's prepared, so worrying now accomplishes nothing. Relax, be positive, and do something else while he's out.
I used to watch a lot of anime, but not so much anymore. I follow Naruto from time to time, usually just for something with tons of action when I work out.

<- also 22 years old

How does he feel about it? Well we went out to interview the organization running this club, he likes the idea of being with a group of others who share his interests and being part of an organization that isn't going to attempt to cure him.

I was gonna say the same thing, but I thought it might be in bad taste.
But it is true.

at 22 years old don't you think he'd be a little self-sufficient?

He's going clear across town at night on public transportation and going to meet 35 new people, the social club has only one 1 staff member present. For a person with autism all of these things are challenges.

The train part doesn't worry me, he won't get lost as he's been fascinated with the T since he was 2, I do worry about creeps on public transportation though..him being caught being in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Well, I'm still not wrong about them all being nerds 😉. Just tell him to watch out for subtle clues about what kind of female anime/manga fan they are. Gotta avoid them weird, quirky yaoi-loving girls! *shudder*

Apparently the members of this group take turns playing various clips they like and discussing them with each other. my son told the group leader that for tonight he will
prefer to just sit and listen and ease his way into the group. He has a collection of anime and I'll probably gift him with a couple more films to celebrate.

oh god he's nailed ATOT down

-Dad lets me drive slow on the driveway every Saturday. 'Course the seats were originally brown leather now they're a pitiful red.

-It's a 1949 Buick Roadmaster. Straight 8. Fireball 8. Only 8,985 production models. Dad lets me drive slow on the driveway. But not on Monday, definitely not on Monday.

-'Course, three minutes to Wapner.

-Of course I don't have my underwear. I'm definitely not wearing my underwear.

My wife provides respite for DDD individuals and theyve only lost one guy on public transportation.

Apparently some teens took him out to party.

Eh I ain't clickin that link, but based on the filename, I think you found the right thing. Yaoi refers to homosexual overtones in manga or anime... Yuri is lesbian overtones. It doesn't have to necessarily include full-blown naughtiness, but incredibly suggestive themes technically count too. Although anime with rather suggestive themes but not full-blown sex scenes is usually referred to as ecchi... my favorite example is Eiken. The anime had a yogurt slide (imagine it flying up onto a girl's face) and people got into rather weird positions while going down the slide... yeah, it was just really bad.
