Are you 100% sure it's the motherboard and not something else?

I've owned loads of Asus motherboards and have never had a problem with any of them.

 
i am getting that static problem on my asus a7n8x deluxe also. wth is going on? i thought the onboard audio on this thing was supposed to be the best. it sucks if you cant go 30 minutes without having to restart your game. :disgust:
 
Sorry it took a few days to get back.
I'm 99% positive the static is MOBO related.
No overclocking, using most recent drivers (1.16 I believe, would have to check to be sure)
 
I've been using the onboard audio on my A7N8X Deluxe since December, never had a problem with static at all. Maybe you got a dud board.
 
I've found that the nForce2 audio drivers available at Windowsupdate seem to be newer than those at nVidia's site.😕
The drivers from Windowsupdate are dated March 19, 2003; the release date of nVidia's driver pack is early January, 2003. Maybe newer drivers would help?
 
For those with static in their sound, have you muted the MIC and LINE-IN in the nForce2 control panel? If not, give that a try.
 
As a musician, I have always disliked OnBoard Audio - It sucks.

Well, for some gamers it will be okay, but if U have a good amp/speakers (And I am NOT talking about all the shitty plastic speakers out there!!) You´ll almost always hear some kind of static - even with the digital connections.

Remember: Onboard Audio is only a intermidiate/cheap solution.
If you are serious about the sound, shut the OnBoard Audio OFF OFF OFF (In the BIOS, normally), and buy a more descent soundcard! (40-50$ and up should do...)

With all this said, I think AOpen is one of the only companies TRYING to make good OnBoard Audio. I can´t remember the model, but they have/had a MoBo with VERY good capacitors and a ECC83 VALVETUBE in the output stage....Yes!
A ECC83 - just like an old Guitaramp... Amazing! I´d like to hear that one day....

I'm no audiophile, but the onboard sound on this board compares favorably with the SBLive 5.1 I was using previously. It's more than enough for the large majority of folks out there. 🙂

I could use new speakers though. This 4.1 setup must be 4 years old now.

Lots of people are having the same sound problems with Asus A7N8X deluxe @ other forums including amdmb.com, also the raid controllers seem to be defective? maybe you can RMA and get a 8RDA+ they are on sale @ newegg, the sound is great and it is faster then the Asus!.. 220 FSB out of the box!😉 maybe 250FSB with mods?

try buying a $250 P4C800-D that cant run 166 thru 199fsb on purpose!

how many POS boards is that for ASUS in the last year? too many :|

I had the static problem until I flashed my bios and upgraded the drivers to something newer than the cd supplied with the board.

I use the Windows Update drivers and they sound beautiful. I would choose the SoundStorm audio solution over my old SBLive! I had. That thing blew. Gave me problems all the time.

I use a good majority of Asus motherboards and haven't regretted anyone yet.

Epox on the other hand will never go into one of my boxes again. After I had 4 for 4 go defective within a year, never buy another. By the time I got the RMA boards back, I was already upgraded to bigger and better things. I had to sell them for a hefty loss too.
 
bit of a novice so excuse the naivity of this reply.
i just bought this board. i understood that you tended to get the static probs if you used the nvidia UDP and not if you used the Asus UDP.
is this not the case?

Have you checked out motherboards made by Asrock (Asus's budget label)?

I purchased an Asrock board based on the SIS746FX chipset (to replace my old Asus SIS745 which in turn replaced my old Asus KT266a motherboard) and I've been really impressed with it's stability, features and performance. It's no match for the NF2 in performance (what is?) but it's price is hard to beat.
