Who ever fixes my problem = meaning get me playing on my server.
I will give a brand new microsoft optical mouse(the newest one) to them.

Here is what I have:
I have 2 computer in the same house on the same cable line coming in the house.
I have 2 seperate IP addresses with a hub seperating the 2 computer's.
I have been able to surf the net on both computer @ the same time for some while now.
I have a motorola cyber surfr modem & a SMC hub (i have also tried a linksys hub so the prob is not there).
I am runing WIN98se.

Here is the problem:
I cannot connect to my own server (i am tryn to get a unreal tourny server going).
The problem is no where in the game because people can play when I put the server up, it just hangs when I try to connect,
The problem is that my computers do not see each other. I cannot ping them, when I do in DOS it just time's out.
When I do in neo trace it says not responding.
I can ping any other computer.

I have called my ISP(@home) like everyone would say , but they say they do not support networks(they sure will sell you a IP tho?) Anywya they say they are not trained in networking. If I can get on the internet thats all they care about.
All I want is the computer's to regognize each other then it will work.
I know it works because people do it all the time.

I am willing to give up this nice mouse!!
The day I am playing on my server I will ship the mouse off (i have references).

Feel free to email with any question's I might have left out.

PLEASE ANYONE!!

Try setting the Subnet Mask on both of the computers to 255.255.0.0 instead of 255.255.255.0.

:)

If you enable file sharing over IPX can the computers see each other? Also, make sure that neither you nor your ISP are running any firewalls.

load NetBUIE on both.
assign both computers to the same workgroup and give them individual names.
Reboot.

if it still dosn't work ----

after that do this. trust me.
in network properties: go to the properties of your NIC. change the settings from 32 to 16bit NDIS drivers. Reboot
if it looks good. go back and change it back to 32. If not do it anyway. Reboot.

Please e-mail me and tell me if this works. I want be at my computer but i will be able to check my mail.
Thanks.

Yep, all you need is to add the ipx protocol by right clicking on my network neighborhood and going into properties. Once you add that protocol you'll be ready to go.

why does everyone keep saying add ipx. IPX is a novel protocol and won't have anything to do with it.

Does your internet service provider provide you more then one static IP address? Meaning, do you get an ip address for each machine from your ISP? If that is the case then you can just add the IP address of the server into your server search for the unreal game, and connect through the internet.

Meaty, we need to know the current network settings on both machines. (Subnet, IP, gateway, DNS, workgroup, etc... everything).

It'll be quite a bit of info so if you'd rather send screenshots or whatnot, send me a private msg and I'll give u my e-mail addy.

We, or at least I, suggested adding IPX protocols so we could see if the computers could communicate using something other than TCP/IP...

BTW, you can keep the mouse if I get it right (I already have one:)).:)

Meaty, whatever you do, do NOT post your IP addresses here. That's a recipe for disaster as all kinds of neer-do-well types will no doubt try to hack in.

with at home you have to assign your computers to the @home workgroup, if the server is in a different workgroup they won't see each other. If the server is not in the @home workgroup try changing that.
