I went to Barnes & Noble on Sat

I saw a bunch of great books that I read or friends from other high schools read because this was the type of literature read in high school. Let's name a few:

- Catch-22
- Invisible Man
- Their Eyes Were Watching God
- The Great Gatsby
- For Whom The Bell Tolls
- East of Eden
- Wuthering Heights
- Night
- Huck Finn
- The Things They Carried
- The Grapes of Wrath
- Joy Luck Club

blah blah blah keep naming...

and the one book really stuck out like a sore thumb:

- Dreams From My Father.

I almost let out a WTF. It's a great read from what I've read so far (I have a copy of it sitting on my desk somewhere), but honestly how does this fall in a reading list of classics? Shrug.

we had read these in HS:

1984
Animal Farm
Brave New World
Lord of the Flies

We read some others not worth mentioning on this list....

He's popular right now and they're trying to make money. If they call that a classic, then they're just selling the word "classic".

Catcher in the Rye. Old School Emo.

I called it 'Catcher in the Ass' back in high school because Holden acts like he has something up his butt the entire book.

I remember reading The Scarlet Letter, which was alright at best. Also read Of Mice and Men, which I thought was great. "Think of the bunnies." *BANG* Comedic gold.

Classic or not, The Great Gatsby is hands-down THE most boring book I've ever read.

i read this last year, after asking a friend (english teacher) to suggest me some classics to read.

i kinda liked the way the guy wrote....but the story was crap. i dont remember most of it, and i certainly dont recall anything interesting happening, but i remember that i liked something about the language so i read it anyway *shrug*

I couldn't stand Catcher in the Rye, drove me nuts. There was something so repetitive and grating about Holden as a character. I loved Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man, The Sound and the Fury, and 1984.
