as part of the deal, I'm supposed to buy a mac lappy for my wife if she got a job.
well, last week, she did get a job and a very well paying job too.....so now, its time to buy a macbook pro.
I just don't know if I should wait for Rev B of this lappy since there are some kinks with the current line.
or wait till aug when bootcamp is part of the os X image.....
and $2200 (with tax and applecare and univ. discount), no matter how worth it it is, is a lotttt of money for a laptop....

i'm not sure what this "feel" you describe is. I, for one, want to get down to business. I don't want bouncing icons, I don't want an oddly placed dock, I want to be able to rick click, and my close, minimize, and maximize buttons all go in the top right corner, not the to left goddamnit! 😛

i would probably wait for revision B, and as for apple care, it only exteneds the original warranty from 1 year parts and labor to 3 years, and the phone support from 90 days to 3 years

the screen and battery are NOT covered

also another great thing about apple, is the magnetic power connector-

if your pet runs by and trips on the cord it comes out without hurting the unit, also i believe its less likely to end up with a loose or none functioning connector over time (i see a lot of that on laptops in the tech shop i work at)

i hear other companies are moving to that magnetic connector too

Right because thats all we need, a connector that damages floppies and will be sure to set your house on fire for no apparent reason..

A: how would it set your house on fire?
B: why would you be draging the end of the cord over a floppy disk anyway?
C: like 777php says, who uses them still? especially if you have a new macbook pro?

Why don't you leave the thread, start making coherent statements and arguments that actually make sense, and then just not come back in?

Doesn't Asustek make the apple laptops? And have for quite some time now I believe.

I would much rather go to RJTech and get a stylin ASUS barebones laptop, get the processor, RAM, and hard drive of my choice and have a better, faster laptop for half the price - and all of the build quality. Spend a bit more and have it assembled before its shipped to you (for the lazy and/or technically inadequate). And this way you actually get some of the things Apple left out, like a DL DVD writer and a PC card slot for various peripherals.

Macs are fine. Notebooks are notebooks - but I'll tell you, there are very few reasons to spend $2k for a fancy notebook over a $750 dell notebook that is probably as fast and gets as good battery life - as something you carry around, it gets damaged.. you replace it. You don't have to carry it around like it's a diamond ring.

I bring my notebook everywhere. I throw it in my backpack. No bubble wrap, no pomp, no circumstance. It always works. I get 5 hours of battery life, a beautiful screen, and have a nice fast processor. Guess what.. I didn't pay $1500+

You wanna buy the cheapy one? I could justify a $1000 apple notebook. $2000? You're nuts.

I dont think macs are terribly overpriced. The difference I see is the starting price of their products as opposed to Dell. A Core Duo Laptop from Dell starts at $799 but you arent getting much. Even so, Dell will always be less however, the amount of Quality in the Apple makes up for that. I get a nice looking product with amazing intergration with the OS, attention to detail, and Mac OS X is lovely.

Dell takes various color plastics, cheap parts and then slaps them together and put a windows xp image on. Done. What Apple does is a cut above this assembly line process.

For those that whine about price. the ibook is a fantastic notebook and can be had sub $1000.

Also, Someone hear said BootCamp will be in the Apple image by Aug. I would say this isnt happening, BootCamp will be in 10.5, which isnt hitting til around the same time as Vista unless Apple decides to surprise us. Wait a while for more 10.5 new so you don't have to dump $70 for the upgrade.

I haven't used a floppy in 5+ years. Get with the times buddy. If for some reason you needed to backup your dinosaur cave drawing that are only on floppy, the only way you're getting a drive on a PB is through an external drive and one would assume you'd put it away from the magnet...

Plus, these "catch fire for no apparent reason" stories actually come from one guy who's cat peed on his connector, an interesting side of the story that is conveniently left out by the mindless mac bashers.

Try again hater. :roll::roll::roll::roll::roll::roll::roll::roll::roll::roll::roll:

So, we go in. I'm looking around, and I see the new Macbook Pro. My. God. that thing is sweet looking. I mean, I SELL Laptops for a living (Toshiba, HP, Compaq, Gateway) and not ONE of those brands meets the build quality I felt on that notebook. And, of course, I fell in love with the 30" Cinema display.

I'm a traitor. I want a mac now.

You should get your hands on an IBM laptop, then you'll know whats 'quality'.

Except they're now LENOVO

they've always been lenovo.

Wait, if you can. The current generation has heat issues.

yeah, I call BS! Please find me that laptop, identical to Apple's, with their support and warranty at half the price and I'll buy it tommorrow. You know what, IT DOESN'T EXIST!

Unlike you, we people who spend over $2K on a laptop use it for more than surfing the web. I'd like to see that $750 Dell that's comparable to the MacBookPro. Really I would. Not that I would buy it since I've had my fair share of crappy Dell laptops
