now I know why all these people like BMW's soo much, it drives great, i drove a BMW 330i, what a drive! the only thing i thought was wierd is that it shifterd at 6k rom and not like 4k or 5k seemed a little to change gears at, the inside is way roomier then older bmw's and the inside styling is alittle bland and boring but the car drives great and i fit really well into it.

i'm 6 foot 4 and fit surprisingly well in a 325IX (that i btw convinced my 6 foot 2 father to buy). i was shocked, the drivers' seat just kept going farther and farther back. it's rare for me to find a car that i fit well into.

but i agree, "ultimate driving machine" really is true. very enjoyable driving that baby

well, once again , i'm speaking for my father, BUT

we leased it a 325ix

and i pimped it out with the sport rims (that are standard on the 330) and the zeon headlamps.

and he cannot STOP talking about how much he likes it.

I'd get a used on, especially a 318ti. Otherwise I will stick to VeeDubbs, the new jetta is often compared to a bimmer. Only cheaper its and less flashy IMHO.

why would you get a used? the new comes with 3 years of service plus its new and i plan on keeping it for along time, it seems like bmw has the most old cars out on the road, i always see really old bmws and mercedes.

I'm going to drive a BMW Z3 Coupe 3.0 Manual this afternoon!

Ameesh, did you drive it as part of the Ultimate Drive deal?

No offense, but those 318tis are about the lamest BMWs made since the Isetta. The Jetta does not have much in common with any Bimmer, except perhaps the new Morgans (which are the only FWD BMW product).

318ti is lame, hell anything but the 330ci or i IMO is lame, in the 3series that is. Be a ///M Power man like myself :) Cause MPower is the only way to go. Drive an M3 and tell me what you think of that 330i after that ;)

Raoul: If you want to cover the difference between the 330i and M3, I have absolutely no problem upgrading. :D

buy an e36 m3, good luck even getting a new one. Unless of course you REALLY REALLY prefer that new body styling.

ha!

comparing VW to BMW. nowhere near the same feel or feedback a BMW has. or power, or handling, or looks, or well you get the point.

Sohcrates, I'm 6'4" as well, and was totally surprised at how well I fit into a VW Beetle. Course, I wouldn't really want one, not enough back seat/trunk for my liking. Gotta be able to keep my bike in there :D

I wish I fit a little better into the Jettas, I really like them. I might have to try out a Passat sometime and see how the leg room is

While I don't doubt that the newest ones could be nice, I went and test drove a couple older ones.. I believe they were 96-97ish.. and was definitely less than impressed. I can't remember what I drove off the top of my head.. they were the sportyish 300 series I believe - maybe a 328 and maybe one model down? A 325?

Anyway, the moral of the story was that in my opinion, these cars just plain weren't worth the $24,000-$28,000 they were asking. Not especially fast, not especially well handling, not especially comfortable. And even though they were only a few years old, they really hadn't held up that well. Windows were rattling as I closed the doors, etc. Frankly I didn't see anything that would make me want to buy it except that I could say "I drive a BMW" and suddenly that counted for a lot less.

??? Dunno. Just thought I'd share my impression. I was really surprised, too, as I've always thought they were good cars and liked the exterior styling... I just didn't see that design quality reflected in the interior or performance.
