To drop in my ecsk7s5a.
Will i be miserable?
I havent installed em yet...kyro is en route.
I feel so rebellious!

i just wanted to try something different...running a duron 850 atm,but plan on buying a new cpu in the next week. How will this work 🙂
im accustomed to the geforcexxx/sblive blah blah....
hell new drivers will at least be fun
😎

Kyro is powerVR's new video card, roughly equivilant to the GeForce2 MX line.

MuseXL is a Herc sound card. Dunno much more about it.

Will you have problems? Doubtful, specially w/ the sound. The video card however.. well, my friend tried one and it was junk. He returned it for a GeForce2MX and was much happier. Mind you, the drivers were still immature.

well.. muse is not that bad..and I see what you mean by feeling rebellious.
I chose to buy acer burner just to be different. 😉

Lokan a Kyro II kicks an MX's but, the Kyro II competes with the GF2 GTS, Pro and Radeon DDR cards, not the MX's. Maybe you should read Anand's review of the Kyro II.

Btw - I am buying a Herc 4500 soon.

i heard the Kyro2 was a good card.*shrug* what can it hurt?
fyi:its the herc kyro 2 4500
im psyched!
i hope the drivers are good 🙂

I read the review, but I'm just informing the person who asked about my real life working situation. I know what Anand wrote, and I respect that, however, my experiences were different as were my friends. Everyone is entitled to their own opinions and experiences and I can honestly say we got smoother, faster framerates w/ the gf2mx vs the Kyro II.

Eitherway, I stated the drivers were early and that might have been the issue. Sorry you disagree w/ what I personally witnessed, but that's how it was.

I picked up a MuseXL and a Radeon the other day. I'll let you know how the Muse does. 🙂

I say screw Nvidia and they're expensive chipsets. 😉

I heard kyros are better with faster cpus because of the lack of what was it..T&L engine..?not tooo sure.
Driver support is another story though. I seriously doubt that Kyros have better driver support than NVidia's.
But if one works for you, then there is no problem.

i just got the frtissimo2 in the mail today
sounds nice but it's crashing everytime i watch a dvd or a video file, i'm gona try downgradeing the drivers to the ones on the cd and see if that helps.
i was checking the muse to and it was the best lower end sound card i found, rocked compared to anything you culd get from creative for that kind of money. but it just didn't have the features i was looking for.
i'm digging my dedicated headphone jack.

I just put 2 of the Muse XL's into computers I built, they wanted a cheap price,
The Muse XL sounds great for the price it was, it just uses more CPU power, it's the yamaha chipset.
I couldn't really tell the difference between the Muse an SB Live, in fact the Muse did sound crisper with better tones.
You won't be disappointed.

The muse XL is a competent budget sound card well worth the purchase price.

I have no direct experience with the Kyro II 4500, but I suspect that you are lacking CPU power to drive it to it's full potential (the drivers are very demanding on CPU power, apparently).

I bought a KyroII for my son's computer and I liked it so much I gave him my MX400 and kept it for myself. 2D quality is as good as a Matrox g400 and far superior to an MX400. Half-Life looks beautiful. I still use Yamaha sound chips in cards left over from the first Athlon days (MB's didn't work well with SBLive) in the kid's machines. The sound quality is great for listening to music. Don't know much about gaming sound quality though.

i bought a hercules 3d prophet 4500 64mb w/ tv out in september, for around $110 USD. The minute i put it in my machine, i had majpr problems, and it took a few hours just to get it to boot up... once i got it running, there were graphic anomalies all ovre the screen and i could hardly read any text whatsoever.... at this point i thought, goddamn, what a piece of utter crap.... but i called herc tech support and they helped real fast, thinking the card was damaged at some point, and that was causing everything, so they let me send it directly to them (my oem kyro2 that is) and sent me back a RETAIL card, that worked right when i put it in without a single problem at all, just took out my tnt2, popped in the kyro and viola... ever since then its been great, it runs any game ive tried so far, including new ones like return to castle wolfenstein, without much slowdown even on high detail... and i have a PIII 500mhz, go figure.... i may just be lucky with my setup, but i love this card, and recommend it to anyone that ever owned a computer... cant wait for kyro3 coming soon...

well im happy to report both the kyro 2 and musexl in w/o issue..i downloaded the latest drivers from hercs site and both work like a charm...4 speakers support is there...and it seems a tad crisper than the live.
the Kyro runs the MOH SP DEMO 1024x768x16 full tilt reasonably well @ full everything.
so heres my pathetic rig:
duron 850mhz@850mhz
256MB PC-133 Crucial
ECS K7S5A
Herc Prophet Kyro 2 4500
MuseXL
2 20gb 34gxps 7200rpm/66
Inwin Q500 Case/Powerman 300w PS
Philips 8x Burner IDE
a Few case fans doing nothing

i guess the logical thing would be to up the cpu....i have a stick of pc 2400 ddr but its only 128mb...so i stick with the crucial for now.
ill likely go with an xp..hopefully this ps will be enough.
