I was robbed.

Time was about 9PM local and I was coming home from work. Had to go across a railway bridge. 4-5 teenages were on the bridge blocking the path. I was hoping they'd let me through. They asked me for $2, I said I had none (honestly I had zero otherwise I would probably given to them - in hindsight maybe a good thing cause they could've stolen my wallet).

They asked me to take out my phone. Hessitantly I did. They said let me hold your phone, "I'll give it back to you". Obviously, there was nothing I could do. Handed over the phone. Asked for it back. They said "walk away or we'll bash you".

Thank god it didn't escalate. I had a laptop bag with me (no laptop) but they didn't check. THey didn't ask for wallet or my watch ($300 GUESS my dad gave to me but its about 8 years old now). I bought an iPhone last weekend, lukcily it hasn't been delievered! Luckily I wasn't carying my x200 lenevo laptop.

Police coming over in a bit.

Cliffs:
* Was robbed
* Phone taken
* Lucky to be alive.

Anyone else been robbed before?

Man life sucks.

Live in Sydney, Australia.

Had to cross the bridge to get home. They were just "hanging around". If there was any other path I would have avoided them. But its hard to see these things coming. Had to give them my phone, they would bash the crap out of me otherwise? 5 v1 - no chance 🙁

Secret Service just stood there and watched while you got robbed? Man that's rough.

yeah i'm going to fire them. btw military spending is gonna be increased now by a bajillion times to protect me.

Sorry to hear that. You'll get another phone. You did what you had to do... again... really sorry that happened to you.

I've had a similar occurrence... got nothing out of me thought... I knew i was walking through a bad part of town and literally had nothing of value but my wedding ring on.

A 'muggers' wallet is a nice thing to keep around.

HEY guys can I ask something?

The cops took down the IMEI number of the phone. Is there any way for them to catch the phone when it gets used again? I'm sure the robbers will change the sim but maybe the call signals transfer across the IMEI???

You should have taken out your phone and dialed 911 in front of them. 😉

Either they bash the crap out of you, or if you can get the call out in time maybe you stand a chance? I'm thinking if you tell them "the cops are coming over, try and bash me - I won't move so you will get caught?"

QFT suprisingly good idea. My dad said once he was about to get robbed but he showed the robbers he had nothing (he didn't have anything on him). Gahh whats wrong with these people!!

Uhh, you don't have to get the call out in time. You just dial and they find yo azz through tower triangulation. It's called E-911 in the states. Text

If you told them you just dialed 911 and you act aggressive/defensive I highly doubt they would be willing to hurt you and move on to a softer target.
