You know those people you see twirling signs on a side walk with info they didn't write on it and probably can't even read or comprehend pointing you in the direction they're told to? That's basically what you are if you're a AMD/Intel/Nvidia PR rep. By 2007 you could have gotten better info from a pile of dog shit than listen to the reps soliciting lies on tech forums ... yet most the mods around here insisted on supporting their BS.

Didn't help one vendor was selling cards that caught fire and the other selling cards that didn't work correctly with half the titles on the market all while charging you $500+ to get what invariably felt like being fvcked over. The rage was imminent.

...and its the same exact trolls going on and on in their dick swinging contest, year after fucking year.

Do these people have such great lives that they have to manufacture their issues based off of which video card mommy and daddy bought them? I can't see any other reason why people clamp on AMD and nVidia like it's a damn religion. It's either that, or those people are being paid.

No reasonable person would be arguing about video cards for 6+ years straight.

When i was a young lad, I bought an Amiga 600 and even installed a build in 2,5inch (I believe it was 60MB) HDD. My brother was of the snes super nintendo camp. I liked the super nintendo as it was a great game machine. But i was just happy with my Amiga 600. My brother however was constantly arguing about how superior the snes was over the A600. Very annoying. Even today in his eyes, linux is superior over windows and always will be... Nvidia is better then ATI/AMD(which i can understand since at the time nvida had better driver support for linux) It makes one very tired. Some people just are like that... :|

I stopped going to VC&G when Rollo was outed. Now when I feel the need for some stupid I go to P&N.

/this

i went in though when i was building my new rig. oh boy was that a mistake.

Though i did get some good advice in General hardware. it took a while before the shills showed up.

Maybe people get angry with each other because you have retards that won't accept the fact Nvidia is total shit.

I will pay twice as much for a Nvidia GPU of equal performance, but I buy a lot of mid and lower range GPUs.

I mostly browse VC&G to learn about new GPU architectures or nodes.

My brand is better than yours.

You gots some beef with that?

I'll post the fucking graphs, don't tempt me.

Still a TON of good info on the tech boards and worlds better than what many review sites and especially the GPU makers put out regarding their cards.

IMO I think the nVidia viral marketing that Rollo got exposed for made things worse rather than better after his exposure (Rollo and his ilk and the general purpose of his creation are a nightmare, don't get me wrong), folks now know for sure that their are others like him out there, so there's a type of environment on tech boards where everyone is suspect if they show any bias. The waters are definitely polluted, but it doesn't mean the logical answers aren't being found on the tech boards through the debate that takes place there.

Where else you gonna go when your card black screens after gaming after updating drivers or some other obscure issue hampers your rigs stability/performance?

was he a shill or something?

He was the most verbal invida shill in the forum, though he always swore that he had nothing to do with them. Then it came out that he was part of an "invida focus group". The reality is he was paid to trash ATI and talk up invidia. He was banned, then invidia asked that he be allowed to return, so he was unbaned. At that point, I realized that the forum was monitored and that invida had some influence with how it was run. I've gone elsewhere for hardware advice ever since.

Not only that, but AnandTech made another focus group member a mod. That's right, a moderator.

The worst part of the whole situation, IMO, was that people were banned for calling out Rollo for exactly what he was. I also detested the condescending way he would retort to concerns about him ignoring data and shilling nvidia.

Put a sour taste in my mouth towards the whole company. I am not a hypocrite and still considered their cards. The way I game now though, I might have bought my last discrete card ever a year ago.

Rollo used a tactic, that is still employed by his kind, to stir things up to a point to get others banned. Basically a game of taking the bait. The shills put out tons of bait to try and ban anyone who disagrees with them or calls them out. Very frustrating to see, I agree.

Of course this doesn't only happen with video cards, this type of stuff happens in all business. We know reviews we read online for products are not all from real customers or expose real opinions. I've had a few folks I know leave jobs after being told by their boss to write up fake positive reviews of the products the company was selling. Of course the successful fraudsters employ companies to do this kind of dirty work for them. Still some asshole has to do it rather than leave the job and incentive.

Add me to the list of those that stopped posting when Rollo was finally ousted (although admittedly my interest in hardware was already waning anyways).

Use whatever you feel has the best performance at the price you want.

Rollo was entertaining. Nothing beats news straight from the horse's mouth.

so? that is something that should never have happened.

Agreed. Not sure what virge means by "that's backwards". As I recall his Mod status was controversial from the start exclusively because he was a Focus group member. Perhaps I am recalling incorrectly though.

I was amused/bemused by how his problems with ATI cards between cards/models/generations were always the exact same issues. Before he was outed it was so blatantly obvious that he was FOS.

Virge is correct.

He was already a VC&G mod before he joined the focus group.

When he joined the focus group, he resigned as a mod from VC&G.
