I was partially scammed by someone-what are my options?

Well it depends. Do you use eBay often? You might be able to open up another Paypal account just with a different credit card or bank account.

He emailed me other feedback plus two references. His feed back was good at PBnation but the last one was 6 months ago. One of his refrences gave him a thumbs up & his PBNation feedback was good. Turns out he linked me to his old feedback -his new feedback isnt so great.

Are you serious? Paypal leaves you high and dry and you're worried about them closing your account? If I got screwed and they refused to help I would tell them to bite it.

Whatever you do please make sure that you leave the appropriate feedback for the seller. He obviously lied (misrepresented) the goods sold to you and tried to blow you off by sending you copied software. Strongly consider a chargeback on your credit card. Paypal is great/fantastic/stupendous when a deal runs flawlessly ... but when a deal goes bad they are less than worthless. They collected their (exorbitant) fees and they leave you (the seller) holding the bag.

I wonder how Paypal would feel if you did a chargeback? Do it so we can find out ...

If you do a chargeback don't send him the laptop until you actually are credited your money.

issue a chargeback on the CC. goods were not delivered as agreed on, simple as that. Paypal can go play with themselves. turn him in as distributing pirated software to Microsoft. if stuff was sent via USPS, contact the Postmaster.

How about turning in Paypal for profiting from "pirated" Microsoft software and not doing anything about it? Microsoft might not be interested in this one seller, but I thought Paypal would at least have to pretend it's trying to stop "pirated" software sales.

I decided Ill just sell the laptop & cut my losses(which shouldnt be too great). Ill also report him to Microsoft & to USPS since he used them as his shipping method. I do a lot of business on Ebay & I cant do without paypal.

This is a good move. But why not give him the chance to refund your money before you do this? That way, at least you have some shot of getting all your money back.

Also, why not contact Alienware to find out if the laptop is stolen? They probably track serial #'s.
